I am not a Christian but I am reading the bible to understand more. But I have some problems with it. I have read so far about god making laws (The Ten Commandments) but it is so out of date! And so far read up to exodus 33. .finished about the Tabernacle.. The way is seems.. if there was a god he should have Blazed us out of existence by now!

You da bomb
If you are a thinking person, the Bible will never make sense.
so...
start over. read Matthew 5-8. Then go to Proverbs---read them all. then go to Ruth. Then read Daniel 1-6.
Understand that the writing style of the Isrealites 2000 years ago was quite different than ours is today. God does not write books. I believe that the word of God is in the Bible, but not every thing in there belongs there. There is a lot that needs studying, questions, and some stuff just shouldn't be there.
Please, PLEASE, e-me if you really want to study the Bible.
have a star....good question

OK, these are worthwhile Q's.
1. I wonder what u mean by out of date. If you look at the 10 C's carefully, they make sense. Think about what happens if you break any of them . . .they were made for our own good to keep our society healthy. Example: Not Coveting (old fashioned language). It means don't want something belonging to someone else to the point where someone gets hurt. Just be thankful for what you have because there's always someone who has something "better" (or is it?)
2. Yes Go could have easily blazed yus out of existence by now. It's only his extreme love for us that stops him. He gives us chance after chance after chance. It's called grace and it's amazing.
3. Great that you read to understand. This is unasked-for advice so excuse me. But it's better to not just start at the beginning and go through. You'll get bogged down for one thing. I suggest that to understand God, read the book of John (as in Matthew, Mark, then Luke then Jhn). John knew Jesus personally and you'll get a lot more understanding of who God is.
I hope you come back with another question when you're through with John!

I've been a christian for a couple of years. I would suggest to start reading in the new testament because you will easily get bored withe the old testament especially if you aren't a christian! I've tried acouple times but I've never read throught the old testament!I don't really get what you mean about how God should have blazed us out of existence. Hope I helped if you have anymore questions you can ask!
P.S. in my point of view the 10 commandments still apply to todays world, but i know they are said in an old fashioned manner. Try getting a NIV Bible or changing the weirder words to the more current forms!

Spiritual understanding is different from academic understanding. Spiritually speaking, pray for understanding. It is because spiritual matters are given by THE HOLY SPIRIT through revelations or inspirations. Moreover, we do not study THE WORD OF GOD like as if we are placing GOD under a microscope like a science specimen and study GOD. That is no way. On one hand. the Prophets of old or even today can see spiritual vision. It is because in human sense, they have a third eye so to speak. This 3rd eye is actually their sense of wonder. And they see wonderful creations all around them like the light, the planets, the sun and the universe. And the micro world say men living in the billionth- billionth- billionth of a second, yet we do not perceive this time occurring:before our very eyes or a billion, billlion of years which we dont have the opportunity of experience and perceive them as well. And these are only examples of the servants of GOD seeing them with their third eye or their sense of wonder. Thus, at this point in man's history, we have a book of wonder called the Bible and the christianity that it espouses. Additionally, Christianity is a belief of life beyond the grave; a life even unto eternity or eternal life. And THE LORD JESUS CHRIST is the WORD OF GOD about these divine plan for mankind. The LORD JESUS CHRIST is the MESSIAH who have redeemed mankind from eternal death or damnation. HE is mankind's savior. For witnesses other than Christians, the Prophet Mohammad in a vision was brought by Archangel Gabriel to heaven and saw THE LORD JESUS CHRIST standing in the right hand of GOD; while Mohammad remained with the audience in a heavenly assembly among the Prophets. St John the baptist was also a witness of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST when he declared HIM as THE LAMB OF GOD who takes away the sins of mankind. And another witness is the Prophet Isaiah 9:6 that states that the one who will be born of a virgin woman will be called MIGHTY GOD, WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR (HOLY SPIRIT), EVERLASTING FATHER and PRINCE OF PEACE. These are one of the many reasons that one should believe the Bible and Christianity as well. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD.

What you need to realize is that the Ten Commandments is to show us we can't live up to God's standards. We can try ,but we will fail.Only the Messiah,Jesus was strong enough and perfect enough to do that.So He substituted His life for ours. Now He lives in heaven and is our intercessor. When God sees a Christian he now sees the righteousness of Christ instead of sinful old Me.
What's cool about the Bible is,it shows man for just how he really is.All other mythologies always make man come out the hero, even tricking the "Gods".

I don't really see a question here but I'm gonna guess your asking about the out of date part. First, remember that the new testament is WAY more valid than the old testament. Its also alot easier to read because let me tell you NUMBERS and DEUTORONOMY can be really boring...
Anyway, the ten commandments are kind of meant to be general rules. Like the constitution, open to interpretation. Overall, I think they are good guidelines to follow. Mostly, the new testament is about John 3:16 and that is what I base my faith on. Knowing that someone loves me unconditionally (like no other person on earth can) is consoling.

I don't really see your question here. If your question is about the laws and the Old Testament then I got an answer.
It doesn't say that if the people don't follow the law that they'd be wiped out, on the contrary God said in Noah's flood that he'd never destroy the world again. Also, that was the Old Testament. The New Testament is about Jesus fullfilling the law.

Yes, by our own thoughts , words and deeds, we are capable of doing that to ourselves. We were saved from destruction by Christ 2000 years ago. Now we were slated to be destroyed but the scale has tipped. We as a majority have become more God seeking and righteous even thought there are wars and it doesn't seem that way. Look for 2012 to 3013 to be the thousand years of peace.

The Ten Commandments were never meant to be all the laws, they were just the most basic of the basic laws. Anger was okay, but not murder. Lust was okay, but not adultery. Greed was okay, but not thievery.
This leads up to the need to be led by the Holy Spirit, not the Mosaic law, because the Mosaic law is old, the Holy Spirit is living and active.

I like the comments behind your question. Many laws you find especially in the "Old Testament" are out of date, but they are there to show a progression of how God deals with mankind throughout history, so we get an understanding of who God is, and what our role in this existence might be. As you understand more of the character of God, you will understand why he hasn't "Blazed us out of existence" yet, even though we probably deserve it.
