Since you're obviously already aware that this person is an atheist, it would be quite rude, although if this person sees you as a friend, he or she may not have the heart to tell you as much. Gift giving is a wonderful thing, but the idea behind it is the thought of the recipient. You should consider anyone's tastes and personalities before choosing a gift for them. You may think you're doing them a service, but really, you're insulting the decision they've already made in life, whether you believe it for the good or for ill.

JesusFan, for you it would simply be par for the course. I am sure your Atheist co-worker has already been offended by your comments, if how you act and talk on here is any indication.
Not trying to be mean - honestly - but sometimes you are tactless. I am too - and I know it.
Don't give an Atheist a Bible. That would be like me giving you a Marilyn Manson biography. Just plain rude.

Yes. A better alternative is a gift card to Barnes and Noble or Amazon, this gives them a book but doesn't make your co-worker uncomfortable. And I'd like to know your e-mail address, so I can e-mail you a copy of Scott Cunningham's The Truth about Witchcraft Today. Momma always taught me the golden rule. So I'm treating you like you are going to treat your co-worker. Actually I'm being nicer, because it isn't your birthday ,or an occasion, where a comfortable nice gift is expected.

a) yes. Would you think it was a thoughtful gift if someone gave you a Koran or a copy of Anton LaVey's "Satanic Rituals"?
b) If you think the atheist has not read the Bible, chances are you are wrong. Most of us became atheists through STUDYING the Bible and engaging our brains.

Yes, are the same one who asked about the co-worker getting mad about showing them scripture? Seems like you would have gotten bored already. You already know the answers you will get....yes its rude and insulting and it certainly can't be considered a gift. If he is real...leave the poor guy alone!

Well being a proud athiest myself... I would probably tell you to shove it up your bum but that's just me. there would be a lot of reactions from that person. Think about what kind of person he/she is and if you think the outcome would be bad then just move on. Also doing that is really just saying I don't agree with you ways so here let me shove my religion down your throat!

Would you be insulted if someone got you a Satanic Bible as a gift? The answer to that is the answer to your question.

It would be a waste. They probably already have a copy. (I have 3 different copies! KJV, The Revised Standard Version, and one for kids! You know.. It ignores all the bad stuff..?)

Would it be fine if the atheist would buy a a book titled: "God doesn't exist you idiot!"?. I am sure he wouldn't appreciate the gift either.

Depends...
Are you the type that would get offended by getting a copy of The God Delusion as a gift?
If so, then do unto others...
