It's because Satan is trying to demean what he knows to be his real enemy - Jesus Christ. Satan could care less about the others - they were not the Son of God and will not battle him in the end. But whatever he can do to bring Christ down, he will try. That means teaching people to take the Lord's name in vain, replacing Christ's special days with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, make being Christian an unpopular thing, remove prayer from schools, have bible passages mistranslated or omitted, have religions go after each other by the throat, fill movies and TV shows and magazines full of inappropriate material, tear apart families, and on and on. Swearing against Christ's name is just the tip of the iceberg.

This is a question more for linguistic scholars than fellow "true" Christians. You're asking about figures of speech, which spread to be commonly used among people of a society, rather than a particular specific religion or denomination.

People typically use religious names in vain when they are shocked, frustrated, angry, in pain, etc., and therefore aren't giving much thought to the nature of the name they're using.

For example we English-speaking Americans (Christians, Atheists, whatever else) all learn from our parents and peers that "Oh my God" simply means "Wow." It's not used to denote belief in such a figure. It's not used as a term of worship or sacrifice or proclamation of one's faith. It just means... WOW. Therefore, people of any denomination, or even Atheists and Agnostics, will use the phrase at various times (surprise, intense pain, intense pleasure, etc.) These phrases, although rooted in religion, lose that meaning of origin when they evolve into common figures of speech.

Why do people not say "Oh my Buddha"?? Because they didn't grow up in a society where "Oh my Buddha" meant anything. These phrases are learned.

If you were trying to work out how to get at someone, attack the character of the person that is important to them. The devil's talented and sneaky.. Plus Christians are some of the least actually respected in todays society, so you would expect most people to regard their leader as a joke. And the only time we've forced them to take us seriously, it tends to be do it or else- which isn't conducive to public relations really...

Because those movies come from a western culture and Muhammad and Buddha are not regarded as gods. Only Christ is the major religious figure associated with the deity, so only his name could be used in vain.

Those things are not taking the lords name in vain. Budda damn this or that would not be a sin as Budda has no power.

I believe the reason is that since God is holy and Jesus is the Name above all names, God and Jesus are the Names that the devil would like to discredit, so he puts it into people's minds to drag His Name through the mud like that. The other religious leaders did not die for our sins and cannot save us; only Jesus can, so the devil doesn't care about dishonoring their names.

Well Im not a TRUE christian, but I do know the answer...the reason is that curses such as those stemmed from situations occuring that were bad and people would think "oh jesus, not again" or someone did something bad to another and the victim said "God Dam- you" and so forth...the reason you dont hear Oh Buddha is that you dont live in a predominately Buddhist country.
