(Genesis 6:1-4) “. . .Now it came about that when men started to grow in numbers on the surface of the ground and daughters were born to them, 2 then the sons of the [true] God began to notice the daughters of men, that they were good-looking; and they went taking wives for themselves, namely, all whom they chose. 3 After that Jehovah said: “My spirit shall not act toward man indefinitely in that he is also flesh. Accordingly his days shall amount to a hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Neph′i·lim proved to be in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of the [true] God continued to have relations with the daughters of men and they bore sons to them, they were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of fame.”
It is referring to angelic sons of God...these came to earth and materialized physical bodies and began taking whatever women they wanted. they had giant off-spring called Nephilim(Fellers, Those who cause others to fall down)) who were bullies! They are mentioned in several other places in the Bible...
(Jude 6) “ And the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day.”
(1 Peter 3:19-20) “19 In this [state] also he went his way and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who had once been disobedient when the patience of God was waiting in Noah’s days, while the ark was being constructed, in which a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water.”
(2 Peter 2:4) “. . .Certainly if God did not hold back from punishing the angels that sinned, but, by throwing them into Tar′ta·rus, delivered them to pits of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment;”
*** it-2 p. 492 Nephilim ***
heaven is the proper abode of spirit persons, and the angels there have positions of service under Jehovah. (Da 7:9, 10) To leave this abode to dwell on earth and to forsake their assigned service to have fleshly relations would be rebellion against God’s laws, and perversion.
The Bible states that the disobedient angels are now “spirits in prison,” having been ‘thrown into Tartarus’ and “reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day.” This seems to indicate that they are greatly restricted, unable again to materialize as they did prior to the Flood.

It's referring to angelic spirit creatures that took materialized bodies and had relations with women, their off spring were hybrids called Nephilim. They perverted the world of that time.
Here are some scriptures that support this view.
(1 Peter 3:18-20) . . .Why, even Christ died once for all time concerning sins, a righteous [person] for unrighteous ones, that he might lead YOU to God, he being put to death in the flesh, but being made alive in the spirit. 19 In this [state] also he went his way and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who had once been disobedient when the patience of God was waiting in Noah’s days, while the ark was being constructed, in which a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water.
(2 Peter 2:4-5) . . .Certainly if God did not hold back from punishing the angels that sinned, but, by throwing them into Tar′ta·rus, delivered them to pits of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment; 5 and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people;
(Jude 6) 6 And the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day.. . .

I think it says something more like ,And sons of GOD were procreating with the daughters of men! It is in reference to the entire population being corrupt and there for the advent of Noah's' flood or the destruction of all human creation except for Noah and his brood and there espousal's. One school of thought is that they were angels coming to earth and having sexual relations with humans. They also believe that this is how the giants such as Goliath were created. Which is impossible since everyone was destroyed by the flood. A more realistic school of thought would be that the chosen or priestly (GODLY) men such as the Levites were procreating outside of there clan with UN-Holy women. You keep in mind that almost all ancient civilizations share a similar flood story and there own socially perfect survivors as well

Hi, this got me curious too, so I looked up the translation from my Chumash, and it is translated as the sons of rulers and judges. But according to many other commentators, the sons of Elohim are the God fearing descendants of Seth, while the daughters of man are the iniquitous descendants of Cain.
The result of such marriages was that Seth's righteous offspring were inticed by the proponents of a godless, depraved culture.
This part of the Bible starts off at this point with the tragedy of the weak vs the powerful.
It helps to go back to the original language to find the meanings. Good luck.

I think "sons of God" refers to men that serve God in those times. It's imposible to think that they were angels. Jesus said the following in Luke 20:34-36:
34And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
35But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
It shows that there's no sex in heaven like we do in earth. That also means that angels don't know sex. The bible talks about the "son of man" when it refers to Jesus as human, and "son of God" when it refers to his divinity. So, I'm sure that Genesis is talking about men that serve God in those times. In Genesis 6:3 refers to men:
Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with [a] man forever, for he is mortal [b] ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years. I supposed the bible is talking about humans, and if not...why it refers to men in the following verse?
It's true that some angels were fallen, but that happened when Lucifer rebelled against God and that was the only time. Are there more angels against God in our times? NO! They're not that fool! the fallen angels were kick out from heaven just ONE TIME, and that happened even before humans.

The angels that rebelled with Lucifer fell to the earth. These are the Nephilim "The fallen ones" .They had the ability to mate with humans and did .They created Hybrid giants .Flavius Josephus says in his history the 'Antiqueties',that these were the ones that became the Greek Pantheon of Gods and demi-gods.This was the biggest reason God had to flood the earth. One might say "Jesus said we are to be like angels not marry".
They are not to marry but they weren't supposed to fall either.
But they are spirit! Yeah well, they could eat and be touched as with Abraham (eating),touching Lot,and Peter.I'm getting long winded here. That's the easy answer.

Angels were created by Jehovah God and as such are his 'sons'.
This account refers to the disobedient angles who left their heavenly abode and took up relationships with women on the earth.

Biblical scholars believe that the Nephilim referred to at the end of this passage are spawn of man and fallen angels. The sons of God or the sons of heaven, were angels sent to earth, who lusted after the daughters of men and laid down with them. Their spawn are seen in reference to the giants, sons of Anak and Goliath, the Philistine giant. I hope this is of assistance.

No, this is refering to the "Fallen angels", in Hebrew it is known as "Nephilim" meaning "The Fallen Ones".
Its refering to the the Fallen angels mating with the daughters of men and it caused the offspring to be Giants. This has something to do with modern aliens, Continue to study and you will find truth
