First we have to put down our own ego...sometimes it is the idea of saving face, that makes it hard to let someone we know is wrong, have a go at us. It is worth striving for though.

The "turn the other cheek" thing is explained in detail by Funk (of Jesus Seminar fame) in 'Honest to Jesus.' It was a form of passive resistance, and was used to provoke an enemy into violating the law by striking out with the right hand instead of the left. The same principle is exemplified in the examples of giving up your coat in a court of law (it was illegal for them to take your coat) and going an extra mile when conscripted (it was illegal for them to conscript you for an extra mile).

We have to be obediant to the spirit of the Lord within us and not give in to our own human reactions.

there is a time when you have to say no to abuse. you have to respect yourself just as much as you respect anyone else, or will become a victim.

It's a silly idea that nearly no one follows in reality.
