yes they still make that type.. the outter dress is velcroed on and you remove the "fluff" and its a stright dress underneath.

Traditionally it's been a wedding dress for ceremony and reception, and a "going away outfit" the bride wore when everyone was throwing rice or confettee, etc. as they "went off on their honeymoon." Could you be thinking of the going away outfit?

Depends on the bride's preference. Some want to wear a different attire for the reception to be more comfortable with the partying after the more serious activity during the ceremony.

For my wedding although I didn't have 2 dresses, I did have a detachable train, when taken off my gown became just a floor length ball gown, which allowed me to comfortably dance & get around. I also removed my veil at the reception. My mom also had a detachable train on her wedding dress, 35 years ago.

Having 2 dress is a huge trend now. I think it's really dumb. You're wedding dress is suppose to be one of the most important things a women wears in her life. Why would you find one gorgeous dress, only to change out of it after an hour or two.

I did that for my wedding. The ceremony dress I wore was very heavy and very long. So I purchased a white gown that was very simple decoration-wise but had a prom dress/ball gown look.

This is why the train on wedding dresses are made to be "hooked up" to the skirt after the wedding, for the reception with invisible hooks/snaps. I had a train on my wedding dress that did this.
