Bible do you read?

If you only read one version , why do you read that over the others?

Have you tried other versions of the Bible?

If I'm after accuracy I go for the Revised Standard.
If I want to get really poetic I go for the King James.
If I want to pray the scriptures I use the New King James.
If I want oodles of footnotes I go for the New American Bible.
If I really want to get it spelled out I go to the Amplified.
If I'm tired and want easy reading I go to the New International Readers Version or the Contemporary English Version.

They all have advantages. They all have disadvantages. The trick is learning the advantages and disadvantages of each.

I was raised on the traditional King James, and so am use to the way it reads. However much of the language in it is beginning to show its age. So I usually used the New King James when reading the Bible in English. It follows the traditional KJ as much as it can.

But if I am studying, I use either the original Greek or Hebrew from which all Bibles are translated.

NRSV usually. I use it mainly because it was given to me by my church when I got confirmed and it has been a great Bible to have ever since.

I studied a lot of Scripture in college and would look through several different versions to try to get an idea of what was out there. So I have tried every version I know of.

For me, it wasn't the "version" as much as it was the actual Bible itself that made me chose NRSV. I love that beaten up, worn out, certain pages folded Bible I have been using for years.

I read the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, I own and read from the KJV and I have a New American Bible that I read Scriptures from. I use them for comparison in my Study of the Bible and in helping others.

The King James and New KJ are best.Based on Jeromes Latin Vulgate ,translated from the Septuagint ,the Hebrew to Greek .This was around in the days of Jesus.

I use to have one of those bibles that had 4 different versions in one . Now I just go with nkjv and if I come to any questions , I pull out this huge bible with a major concordence and an explanation to every verse written . It comes in handy .

I love my King James , the old version , because it just so speaks to my heart, it is so real .
At first , I had a hard time understanding it, but my friend told me to pray ,that God would give me understanding and He did . I read it now as if it is regular English .

I'm a Catholic so I use the NAB, but I grew up Baptist so I like the KJV. Either way it doesn't matter what version you use its what you get out of reading the Scriptures
