No, not at all. Eugene Peterson is a respected author and scholar. Also, people need to realize the difference between a paraphrase and a translation. A paraphrase is a much looser translation. I wouldn't use The Message to do in depth Bible study, but I like to read it to get a new perspective or look at a passage with a fresh lens, especially with texts that are too familiar. It's also good sometimes for public reading.
