There could be any number of reasons for this, but the most likely (and the easiest to fix) is that you are simply dehydrated. Most people can't tell the difference between hunger and thirst. The next time you aren't hungry but feel the urge to eat, drink a big glass of water. Better yet, make a habit of drinking lots of smaller glasses of water throughout the day and stop your thirst before it starts.

I would say you are bored. Take up a hobby that keeps your hands busy and that you love doing. You will not be able to eat and crochet, knit, embroider, sew, build something at the same time. Also, when you really get into it--you won't even think about food.

Could be you are looking for something in another area of your life, could also be your thyroid out of balance. This is easily controlled with a med.See your doctor and get a complete checkup.
You are right - you don't want to get huge. That will present you with a whole new set of problems - high blood pressure, diabetes. You don't want that.
