We should not fear a Higher Power. It's better to assume that the Power is the energy source that created everything and everyone. How does one fear something that they are a part of?

Forgiveness is not necessary, unless a judgement has been passed. Once a person learns not to judge, then the person has nothing to forgive.

Punishment....I don't understand this word.....what's the purpose and why do that to anyone. Just have fun...everything always works out once fear is over-come.

The fear that we are to have for the Lord is not to be afraid of Him.

Proverbs 1:7 tells us that, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge...”

What does it mean to “fear the Lord”?

For the Christian fear means a healthy respect. It means holding Him in the highest possible regard. God is the creator of all things (Genesis 1:1).Heaven is His throne, earth is His footstool (Matthew 5:34-35) and He is to be reverenced, served and worshiped.

In contrast, in Revelation 6:15-17 shows God’s enemies fearing Him. This fear is not a healthy respect but absolute terror. The Christian need not ever experience this sort of fear towards God because there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ (Romans 8:1)

A reverence type of fear, yes you can love. Why couldn't He forgive and punish at the same time. He forgives all the time. Every time we ask for forgiveness He forgives us, but there is some type of punishment. Sometime, somewhere you will be punished and it doesn't always have to be like you think. It could be you not getting a job you are really expecting, it could be losing a good job, etc. But if you don't want to always be punished, then you repent ask for forgiveness and don't do it again.

When the bible uses the word "fear", it means to have the utmost respect for God. So, when using it this way, you can in fact love what or who you respect for. And to the second part, God can forgive and punish at the same time. Parents do it all the time. When we do something wrong, God will chastise and punish us, but because he loves us. It is suppose to teach us so that we learn from the wrong/mistake that we have done. But once we ask for forgivness, it's done with. God isn't like humans who say they'll forgive you and then throw it up in your face for the rest of your life! He loves us and wants us to be the best we can be!

Do you have a dad? Do you have police officers in your town? Do you have a boss at work? Do all of these hold a high position and authority? Do you love them? Do you fear their office at the same time? Sure you do, and its normal, the same is with God. You love him as a loving creator, and you fear him as the authority of everything that ever was! Fear is not terror, its a high respect for the authority that something or someone holds. Now fear God and love him and be happy! :-) God created all things, and he created you, he has rules. Just like a parent raises his kids to do the right things, when they fall short he corrects them with love. If they never learn and stay rebelious he then kills them..... ok he dont but you get the picture. p.s. the punishment you speak of is actually correction and he does it in hopes that the person corrects his way. If he doesnt correct his way his end is destruction which he has chosen on his own. Its Gods will that no man perish but have everlasting life with him. Its the people that make the wrong choice and will spend eternity in hell.

I say you can't truly love what you primarily fear. I don't have a problem with forgiveness and punishment, though. We have to do this as parents. I absolutely disagree with the concept of eternal Hell. That is contradictory to the God of forgiveness and love, dontcha think?

Fearing God is having a healthy respect for who he is.
We love him because he first loved us is what the Bible says.
He forgives and he punishes and yes it could be at the same time ie: you get in a car wreck, and while you're being healed he forgves you for your sins if you ask.

Wrong idea of fear!
Example I love my parents, because I love them I fear hurting their feelings and disappointing them.
I fear their disappointment in me, because I wish to make them happy.
GOD is the same, HE does not want frightened obedience.
He wants that same love that says I do not want to hurt GOD because I love him and do not want to disappoint HIM,
So see it is fear of hurting the one you love!!!!!!!!! not fearing the one that loves US! Can you e-mail me about punishment on a different day, I am wiped from summer heat now! thanks....

The christians claim means only that their god has absolute power to dispense pain or pleasure. It doesn't really describe a "love" relationship, though I'm sure many people have mistaken just such a relationship for love....even with other people.
