A friend said that if a bottle of water has been sitting in my car, and my car has been baking in the hot Atlanta sun all day, the said water is now tainted with poisons from the somewhat melted (or softened) plastic. I think it's ridiculous, but I have to at least ask around.

GREETINGS, nope it's true, there were articles featured in Body and Soul magazine, Alternative Medicine, and many others about the heat in cars are so intense up to 130 or higher and that can cook the plastic and release toxins.

Not true. The polypropylene that the bottle is made of will not chemically change or dissolve and release toxins if warmed. In fact, not water... but many other foods are put in their polypropylene plastic bottles very hot and sealed to guarantee there is no bacteria... and those bottles are fine as well.

So even a worst-case 140 degrees in your car wont do anything bad. And the water in the bottle probably wont exceed 90 degrees even on a hot day.

I drink water out of plastic bottles all the time. Sometimes I leave them in my car in the Florida sun, and bring them in, put them in the fridge and drink them later. I am a dialysis patient, so I have a weak immune system, and I have never had any problems with "poisons" in the water from my car. FYI, I drink 4 bottles of water EVERYDAY for the past year and a half or longer.

I'd suggest not to drink the water anymore.
There is a chemical in plastic that is given off when the bottle is put in a freezer or if it gets too hot.
The chemical can go into your water then into your body.
BTW....this chemical can cause cancer.

So...stop drink that water D:<

Yes. I guess so. I watched on tv that plastic bottles aren't safe for drinking, even if you don't let them sit in the sun. I mean if you keep refilling and reusing 'em. They contain lead which goes with the drink and is said to be poisonous.

your friend is right. plastic that is heated releases carcinogenic toxins. That is why you should never heat food in plastic in a microwave, and you should never freeze food in plastic either, freezing also releases the same carcinogens. You do know that plastic is a petroleum based product right? Would you drink gasoline? Protect yourself, get rid of the plastic bottles, use glass.

My mom got a bad parasite in her stomach from drinking bottled water that was sitting in her car that had been previously opened. So, if you have already opened it and closed it, then left it sitting, don't drink it!
