First: Which god?

Where is your proof that Allah doesn't exist?
Where is your proof that Zeus doesn't exist?
Where is your proof that Ahura Mazda doesn't exist?
Where is your proof that the Invisible Pink Unicorn doesn't exist?
Where is your proof that the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist?

The burden of proof is on the one making the (positive) claim.

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

I don't believe in God for the same reason that believers do believe, a combination of how they were raised, life experience, and old fashioned personal choice. Just like you can't prove he exists, and don't want to try, I know that I can't prove he doesn't exist, but I really don't care.

I'm agnostic, myself. So I think it's possible that God exists. But I think it better to assume that for all effects and purposes, he does not. There are several reasons.

a) The assumption that God does exist generally brings with it a lot of assumption about other issues, as well as the delusion of a personal relationship with God, leading one to believe that one's personal opinions are backed by a higher power. This suggests to one that one's opinions are more valid than the opinions of others, and moreover, excuses one from having to justify/rationalize one's opinions. Which is fine (though idiotic), until one's opinions begin to interfere with the rights of others.

b) The notion of all-powerful beings goes back to mythology, a product of ignorant minds yearning to understand what was far beyond their comprehension. The similarities between what we know (or as close as we can be to knowing) to be the product of imagination and modern religion are numerous and substantial, and the same faulty reasoning produces and "verifies" both.

c) It simply makes more sense to say "it doesn't exist until its existence is proven" than to say "it does exist until its existence is disproven". When you make a claim that something exists, the burden of proof is yours.

Based on science and the ability to rationalize, atheists stand on stronger ground. We don't need to prove our beliefs. We just find your proof for your beliefs an insult to our intelligence. We also find your beliefs immoral as well as irrational. You may be a majority, but in this case the masses are asses. You graze with the rest of the herd.

There is no proof that god does exist, but there is no proof that he doesn't either. It's all in what you believe. I don't need to prove that he's not real, you need to prove to me that he does. Could you prove that there is not any little green men?

oh good grief.

we don't believe in god because there is ZERO evidence for his existence.

incidentally, i CAN prove your god is not real. the concept of an all-good, all-knowing, all-powerful god is a logical impossibility.

had you chose a god that does not claim to have all 3 of these qualities, i would concede and admit i cannot prove his non-existence.

besides, can you prove to me that the FSM doesn't exist? no? then why dont' you believe in him?

How can you not doubt? How do you know God isn't a story like Santa Claus?

I am not an atheist but I believe that everyone should be able to chose what they want to believe.

Lack of evidence. Neither the existence nor non-existence of god can be demonstrated on the basis of evidence or logic, from which it provably follows that any theory of god is totally useless. I do not pay much attention to useless theories.

For the 10,000th time, you cannot prove a negative! The burden of proof is on YOU to prove your god exists! If you can't, quit try to stuff it down our throats!!!

Religious people, why do you have religion?
Prove to the atheists and they'll believe! Why can't you prove? Make them believers. Prove to them God exist!
