i dont think that a child should fear thier parents or God, i think they should love and respect them and him, god is all loving and powerful he created us, he loves us and doesn't cause bad things to happen to us we do that to ourselves, i think a parent should teach their children to trust them instead of fear them because if there is trust there is no need for fear. you see our children or little mirror images of us and everything we do is being copied by them and i beleive in lead by example, if you want your child to grow up with sense then act like you have some and there will be nothing to worry about

First a definition of fear in this context...To fear God is to be in awe of and to honor in obedience. A child should have a similar respect for his Mother and Father as unto the Lord, but not synonomous with or above that of God.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. Ephesians 6:1

Respect for God. Fear of God is more of a respect of God. A child should have a simular respect for parents. Jesus said who is my mother, my brather, my sister. The point being there is a father who projects the will and there is everyone else who acomplishes the will of the father. The house hold is a reflection of the kingdom of heaven or whats the point

fear of not pleasing a parent and doing something they know is wrong and mom and dad would be angry and find out is a healthy way to deter a child from doing that which they know is wrong.
I feared my father for when he got home and my mom told him what i did that day. I now know, as a father of three, that it was out of love and not to harm me but to keep me on the right path.
I see the Lord in the same light as my father is not in charge of me or with us anymore. There is a Father in heaven that loves me even more than my dad did.
I will serve the Lord.

I believe so, and before I have people calling me a child-abuser, let me explain... People fear God only when they've done something wrong. The fear of God encourages people to determine right from wrong. They believe if they do wrong, there will be a consequence. My children will grow up to know if they do wrong, there will be a consequence for their action... therefore instilling the ability to make the right choice.

For God so LOVED the world that he GAVE his ONLY son that whoever believed in Him would not perish but have eternal life.
That is respectful fear, not frightening fear.

To fear in the Godly sense does not mean to be "afraid". It means to respect and hold Him and your parents in a high position.

This bit about fearing God really seems childish. Be good or else! A mature person is good for its own sake, not out of fear of burning for eternity in hell. But, I guess that is what it takes to keep some of you zealots in line.
Incoming! Thumbs down from the zealots!

No, a parent isn't God, so there is no comparison.
The parent should fear God and teach the child about God.
