No the opposite with my daughters. My first born gave us to most issues. My middle daughter is the type to always try and please everyone. She rarely gets spanked. Yet I think my 4 year old, is kind of a mix of the 2 older ones.

I just had my third baby, I was the oldest of three girls. My middle sister was in trouble more often and my middle son spends an awful lot of time getting into trouble. I can see where the middle child would get spanked or punished more often. I think that it is important for the parent to recognize the limbo that a middle child faces and teach with love and respect. My son has his trying days, the new baby gets so much attention and my older son is so helpful and polite that my two-year-old middle child seems lost and out of place sometimes. It must be hard for him. Hope that helps.

Middle children tend to be more rebellious, off in their own world. It always seems the parents are spending more time with the older child and the older child is the teacher or discipliner of the middle and younger. And of course the youngster is the baby.

The older child always seems to have the parents attention even in an adult family situation or gathering. The middle child always has to "butt in" to be heard, hence "you're 25 yrs old and still interrupting...", "What is your problem (middle child)...?

No research other than watching my sister as a middle child, and also watching family gatherings with my wife's family in which she is a middle child.

I think it's nuts... but your statement I believe is true. My wife says she was the only one who got spanked often, while her younger brother got nothing...

I was a younger brother... I just played it cool when all heck broke loose. I could always depend on my sister in the middle to cause a rucous and the blame gets shifted back off me.... :o)

I was the last born out of 4. I think I got equal spankings of my brothers (they were the two middle kids). I dont remember my sister getting spankings (the oldest). But, I was the little trouble maker of the family... and still am, I guess. I think I am my fathers least "liked" one out of all the children, just because I am so different than he is and am the only one who will actually stand up for myself. So, I am definitely the one who got yelled at the most growing up.

I have three boys (5, 3, and 2), and admittedly, the 2 year old is a bit young, so still questionable. I would have to say though that I tend to discipline my 5 year old more, mainly because he knows better and tends to be the instigator. Now, as a side note, my middle one (the 3 yr old) has a temper like you would not believe, which makes it more difficult. I still think though that my oldest gets in more than my middle one.

Not all of them are. The middle one in my family was the most placid-the youngest was the most troublesome as he was (and still is!) the family wind-up merchant!

If you think that's bad, try being the ONLY child. Then you get ALL the beatings and abuse. At least that's how it was in my case.
