And if so, HOW insulting? I am only looking to use the word "temptress" to refer to my last girlfriend on my MySpace profile. This is not meant to insult her, it is only in the context of "I am working on some projects I have neglected in favor of my most recent temptress". No further details. Will this hurt her?

if you are both on good terms, i don't think it is insulting. to me it says that she fascinates you/ you were fascinated by her. hope that helps.

Temptress is defined as an unscrupulous woman that exploits men. Depending on the women in question, she may or may not be insulted.

There are other words and phrases one can use that don't have such a negative connotation but perhaps evoke the same literary flavor you are looking for, such as an alluring woman, seductive partner, femme fatale, siren or bewitching lady.

Temptress. Seductress. Both have negative connotations but aren't necessarily insults.

If she doesn't read, or isn't very smart, then you could get by with Temptress and explain to her about it being a compliment.

Since that is an old-fashioned name for a prostitute, I would think that to be offensive in a public forum. Refer to her as a goddess instead. It will make her feel great and it won't cost you a cent.

No not really, but she might take it the wrong way if she's the argumentative type. You are probably better off not talking about other people publicly anyway. It isn't a good idea.
