The Remington XP-100 in .221 Fireball was the Premiere small-bore long-range silhouette pistol, which was quickly bored out to .222Rem. and .223(5,56NATO) as these cartridges became more popular at the range. Within the limitations of its' small-bore chamberings, it is an excellent weapon, for the purpose it was designed.
I had what I believe was the first .5,56NATO silhouette pistol, a Thompson-Center Contender with a .222Rem. barrel with the chamber reamed for the military cartridge. Not much difference, performance-wise, but, with a Leupold pistol 'scope, it was a 100yd. tack-driver, even with mil-surplus ammo.
In fact, the XP-100's introduction quickly inspired a stampede of wildcatters to adapt short action rifle receivers in heavier calibers such as .308 Win. and even larger, for longer range and more striking power.

It depends on what you want to do with it, it is a great weapon for target and varmint shooting. Very accurate and ammo is still in production. It is not a big game weapon, but great on small game like rabbits and such.

It is interesting and good for what it was intended. I had one years ago and if I ever find one I might acquire one again. I had mine chambered for the 223, later swapped it off as I never used it.

Not really. First of all, it is obsolete. Unless you hand load you are going to have trouble finding .221 ammo for it. It is a single shot pistol.
