I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? Also, since it is strictly forbidden to "eat neither fat nor blood" in Lev. 3:17 & Lev. 19:26, does that mean that I must be a vegetarian and must I smite those who choose to eat meat?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

The sooner non-Jews understand that none of these laws ever applied to them, the better for everyone.

Maybe then they will stop picking and choosing laws to use to point fingers at each other in judgement - which makes them look really ridiculous since these laws never applied to them in the first place.

Jesus never set any non-Jew free from any law in the Torah.
Ever. Never. Why?

First, the ONLY laws that non-Jews were ever bound by in the Torah "Old Testament" are the 7 Noahide Laws. These are the only laws in the entire Torah "Old Testament" that God gave to the non-Jews.

And non-Jews are STILL bound by these 7 Noahide Laws right now this very second. Jesus did NOT set anyone free from them.

Let's see what they are:

1. No murder
2. No blaspheming God
3. No adultery
4. No stealing
5. No worshipping other gods
6. No tearing limbs from live animals to eat (apparently this was done.) It means no cruelty to animals.
7. Set up courts so that a fair and just society may exist.

Jesus no more fulfilled these laws for non-Jews than stopping at a stoplight means that the stoplight law has now been fulfilled and no longer needs to be obeyed.

So, that's a kind of cute little thing you posted there for your question (and I've seen it before actually), but it is absolutely meaningless since none of those ever applied to Christians, or ANY non-Jew in the first place.

I really do wish that Christians would realise this, because it gets REALLY yucky watching them pick and choose out of the Torah "Old Testament" things that don't belong to them anyway, and then use those things to hit each other with.

You know if you believe the Bible and are a born again Christian then you would know that the things you are asking are from the Old Testament and Christ's death on the cross was the once and final sacrifice for the sins of the world. So, you don't offer burnt animal sacrifices to the Lord for the covering of your sins. As to the slavery thing the Bible may say that you can "own" slaves but the laws of the land say that you cannot. Again you are using Old Testament references to justify things that are no longer allowed. The Old Testament's first few chapters were meant as a set of rules for the people of that time to live by. The New Testament speaks to all those things. Read it and you will find the answers to many questions.

The one about defective sight is just so you don't trip over something and fall onto the Altar and get snot or something on it (defilith not the Altar of the Lord with thine snot or feces, sayeth Steve). If you are wearing your spectacles, you should be OK.

Ever notice how few Jewish football players there are?

As for the bull, shaving it and giving it an enema before offering it up as a sacrifice goes a long way toward improving neighborly relations. Its actually easier to purchase to purchase the bull in the form of Bubba Burgers. That way, the neighbors will actually come over for a cook-out, making it much more convenient for the smiteful vegan to smite them.

As for the slave issue, that's where America really got into trouble; we pissed God off by purchasing them from Africa.

Good questions, though.

The only law i go by is the pork one because if you do a search on disease you can get from biblically unclean animals like pigs and lobsters and catfish and such you will see they are all disgusting animals you can get things from. The only law Jesus took away is that we don't have to sacrifice animals for our sins anymore because he became the sacrifice for us instead of the animals. (Mathew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished) So the Law is in effect because the earth is still here. and the ( and in this Jesus declares all foods clean) has been put in the NIV in parenthesis which means the writers of our day put it in there. The King James does not have that in there.

Great Question!

Jesus came to get rid of all that you are inquiring about. It's called old testament or the old way. We have the New testament under a new Priesthood and a new and living way.

Ephes. 2:15 (NIV)
by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace,

Col. 2:14 (NIV)
having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

Col. 2:20 (NIV)
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules:

Hebrews 9:1 (NIV)
Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary.

Hebrews 9:10 (NIV)
They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the new order.

A quick look on your profile confirms that you are an atheist. So why ask a question that you don't genuinely want an answer to? The only logical conclusion is that you are just trying to sow discord.

Proverbs 6:12 A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech,
13 winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his finger,
14 with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord;
Pro 6:15 therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

Haha, clever detective work. I say the ultimate truth can only be drawn from direct observation of categorical concept, not distant descriptions. Therefore, I realize that some drugs are detrimentary to health, as I can very well see some of those effects.

If an expansion of periphery can lead to greater understanding, and hence, a greater chance for /truth/, isn't first assuming something isn't so an approach to truth?

You're not serious. We don't live by the Law of Moses,we live by the grace of God through faith in what Jesus did on the cross. As Galatians 3 and Collosians 2 says. Those things ,i.e. laws and statutes were done away with. They were there to teach the Holiness of God and His unaproachability with out a mediator, which was the Jewish High Priest then and is forever now Jesus Christ.

When Jesus lived, he fulfilled (clarified) the law.

"Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.")
Mark 7:18-19

Lev. 21:20 is metaphorical. Even if you have 20/20 vision, it doesn't mean that you can "see" (understand).

I realize you are only making fun of me and my faith but I will clarify the rest of those verses for you. They were given at a particular time to a particular people who would have been doing worse if these laws had not been put in place. That is why Jesus clarified them to apply to the people of his time and on.

Making fun of people for their beliefs is religious persecution, and I don't appreciate your disrespect. I have shown you none, nor have many people on yahoo!answers, so it's highly unecessary for you to behave in such a immature and rude fashion.

Are you Jewish and live in the old testament days?
Those laws only applied to the Jews during old testament days before our Lord and Saviour sacraficed himself for us.
We live by Grace now and no longer need to study the written law because as a child of God we don't need them.
So stop being silly about all of this.
