My friend has been trying to potty train her 3 almost 4 y/o. Somedays are better than others so to speak. What is the easiest way to do this? She has tried treats, buying her a new toy, telling her vocally how big she is etc. Then it seems as if she falls back. She will be 4 soon, very bright and knows when she needs to go but to no avail. HELP!

my mom told me the way she got me trained was to wake me up and set me on the potty when she was ready to go to sleep and kept me on the potty till i went then praised me. her bed time (10pm ish) was about 2 hrs later than mine. she said it took about 2 weeks for me to get the hang of it.
my brother took longer but she used the same thing on him.

I take it this is a girl. Okay, first off, potty training takes time! Patience, patience and more patience. She may not be quite ready. And DON'T buy those stupid pull ups! Those are just deal breakers. They are just over priced diapers. It took every bit of a year or more to competley train my daughter. My son was another story. Buy those potty training panties (terry cloth double seat, found in Wal-Mart and Dollar General) and put those on and leave them on. Make sure you make her go every single time before she leaves the house. No drinks before bedtime say after 7, except small sips. And NEVER spank over accidents cause they are going to happed. Maybe she likes the potty training toilet that snaps on the toilet lid like a big girl, maybe not. My children did and they are about $10 at Wal-Mart. And you may have to tote them with you when you go places cause she may not like the one she is sitting on. Just keep trying with it and you'll get it.

The child won't feel the need to use the potty if she isn't feeling the wetness. She should try just putting her in the Gerber training pants, which are 100% cotton, along with her pants and keep her at home, minimizing errands for a few days. That worked for us.

I have forgotten the details, but Dr. Phil recommends a method of having the child "train" his favorite teddy bear how to use the potty. A child your age can be trained in about a day using this method.

I had to totally quit using pull ups on my grandson before I got anywhere with him. Put just panties and a tee shirt so she can take down her panties when she goes. Give her a potty chart and let her give herself a star or something everytime she goes. It also helps if she sees that other children all use the potty, she will want to do what they do. She has to want to do it before she will stop going in her pants.

Put her in underwear, and if she goes in it she has to clean herself up. At that age they know what they are doing. The underwear will help her to know, and her having to clean herself makes her responsible for her actions and she misses playtime without it necessarily being a punishment. It was a choice she made. I would make sure she's in underwear for at least a week before making her change herself, that way you know she knows when she is going because she can feel the wet immediately!

We used a star chart for our now 4yr old. He could either save the stars up or spend them. All he liked to see was all the stars. After he spent the stars we took them away so he never wanted to spend them.:) We made sure that if he went a wk dry tho we'd take him out for McDonald's or BK where they have a play place.
