Special Forces does not issue a dagger. It might be that somebody had one made or inscribed.

I am looking at my crest right now. It is all upper case and reads as follows: DE OPPRESSO LIBER (as we jokingly said, "the liberated will be oppressed").

EDIT: Apparently, I have been put in my place as it seems Billy knows that a knife called the Yarborough is issued upon graduation of the Q Course. I defer to him if in fact this is true. I merely wish to point out that when I was in SF and when I went through the course and was stationed at Bragg through 1986, no such knife was issued. My apologies if I provided an ambiguous answer. I shall look into this some more and check with certain friends of mine. Thanks.

EDIT 2. I stand corrected. Apparently such a knife is now presented upon graduation from the Q course. I heard I can obtain one from the JFK bookstore. Regards.
Regards

It depends. It might be given to a Special Forces guy who went through Kamfenjager school. If it has a double edge and a green handle it might be.

De Oppresso Liber is the motto of the Special Forces--Green Berets. It means Liberate the Oppressed.

It is noble to fight for democracy. It is noble to free the oppressed. And this is what our Military forces do; precisely because it is this act of liberation that most protects the country. “De Oppresso Liber” – “To free the oppressed”, the motto of the US Army Green Beret. In my mind, it is every bit as much a motto for the nation as “E Pluribus Unum:”

It sounds like someone is trying to immitate the motto inscribed on the US Army Special Forces Regimental Crest. Only thing is, I believe it is spelled "de Opresso Libre".
