OK here it is in a nutshell......1st off broken tails unless they are cut open & bleeding & will need stitches are prettymuch like broken toes on people, there isnt too much you can really do for them. I had an English Setter all while I was growing up taht unfortunatly got her tail closed in our car door & needless to say it got broken pretty much right in the middle. There were no lacerations or broken skin so we straightened it out, shaved off the long hair & pretty much splinted it & wrapped it in gauze & medical tape as straight as we could get it. It looked pretty funny but it healed straight & you never even knew it had been broken unless you touched it you could kinda feel a lump of scar tissue where the break had been. You should probably call your vet jsut to be sure but like I said...its kinda like broken toes, all a medical person is gonna do is starighten it out & wrap it & try to keep it as straight as possible & keep as much pressure off it as you can and le tit heal...there really isnt much else they can do a cast is WAY too heavy for a tail.....you might want to see if your vet will prescribe a mild pain killer if your dog seems to be in a lot of pain or you can give him/her about a 1/2 of a baby asprin(NO IBUPROFIN!!!!) to help w the discomfort....be sure to go according to weight per dosage...if you have any question feel free to email me Ill try to help if I can

Im not sure there is anything you can do. Take him to the vet. I had a puppy with a broken tail when I was a kid. It was a normal long tail, but right in the middle it dropped straight down. He never acted any different and wagged it just like a normal tail. The vet thought he'd had an injury as a little puppy and left it.

Why don't you call a vet? Sometimes there is really nothing that can be done because of the limited circulation near the end of the tail. However, only your vet can tell you what treatment options are available.

Usually if a dog breaks it's tail, it needs to be surgically amputated. If not, it can interfere with the dogs elimination. Depends on where the break is. You need a vet visit.

The dogs tail is the extension of the spin. Take it to the vet. If you have to ask such a question, you should not have animals.
