We were given severel days ago a tv. someone pressed the power button too hard and the button got stuck inside the tv. we bought a universal remote and got the tv to turn on. You can hear the static but the screen is blank.

Ok SINCE you got the TV to turn on, I really doubt that pushed in power button is going to cause problems.....

The NO PICTURE is more important now....Change channels, change the volume, turn on the menu with the remote (and try the front panel buttons too). Do you get a picture of the display? If so, then you may only need the TV serviced by a good TV tech.

IF not....then that's actually better...it's the horizontal output and it costs less than the Video processor....one is $20, the other is $55. I would expect the labor to be $100 maybe $150 max.

So for less than $200 you get a 37 inch TV set.....and I think it might be a JVC instead of a JVG.....

I'm assuming that the TV worked just fine before the power button problem. The TV cabinet needs to be disassembled to remove the button, the button may or may not work when you get it out, if it won't because the button (which engages the actual switch), then remove it, someone will press it again and you'll be back to where you are now.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you're not a "handyman" don't attempt it, find one. There are capacitors in there that hold juice even when the TV has been unplugged for days or weeks, while I've never heard of someone being killed by it, it really hurts and packs a punch. I speak from experience, I rebuild them and have been bitten, trust me, you won't forget it.

It'll have to be disassembled from the back, remove the back outer shell. Then you'll be able to remove the front panel. You'll see a fat wire that that goes to a suction cup thing---stay away, it'll spank you hard. The little board on the back of the tube---it may or may not, depending on the design, besides if it gets a decent tap, you'll bust the tube and you'll be over it, forever. You'll hear a hissing sound and the tube is wasted.

Try to go into the menu via the remote or the front panel button. If you can get the menu to come up, check the settings. Use a knife blade to try and pop the power button out first. Sounds like the damage could be more than the switch. Also realize the set is about 10 years old, and at this point I would be hesitant to put much money into it for repairs. Good luck with it.
