A boxer. the husky is -way- too unpredictable. But honestly, no dog is really good around kids that young. Kids are rather mean and see dogs as toys. This can make the dogs act out trying to defend themselves, which can result in biting and bad behavior. I would wait until the kids were older so they can understand the dog is a living being. You'll be thankful for waiting, because the dog will have a much better quality of life.

I would highly recommend the boxer. I have a 4 year old boxer that we have had from a pup and 2 kids, 9 and 12, so only a year older than yours when we got the dog. As soon as he was old enough to play well, he learned very quickly and without problem just how hard he could play with each family member. While I allow him to rough play with me, he can turn from that and play tug with the youngest and never knock her down. Extremely loyal and never tires of the kids company, even when they dress him up and stuff like that. As a pup he took all the pulling pushing and other kid play in stride and never lost his cool. I can't say enough good about the breed. As one author put it "They (boxers) are all that is right with a dog". I couldn't agree more.

I think the best dog around kids depends upon the owner of the dog. Another idea would be is to take the child to a pound or a no kill shelter and expose the child and the dog to each other so that you can see how the dog reacts to the child and how the child reacts to the dog. This is a hit or miss situation. Some border collies can be really sketchy when it comes to anybody because of the constant inbreed of the dog. Do this with cats, rats, lizards or dogs, make sure the child will mesh with the animal.

Both those breeds of dogs are high energy and may be too much for young children simple because they will get knocked over often. I would go onto the AKC website and look at the breeds and research what type of dog would fit into your life style. For instances do you live in an apartment, farm, house, duplex? Do you have a fenced yard for it for exercise? Are you able to walk it twice a day? How long will it be left alone in the house? If your going to get either one of these breeds I would suggest you rescue an older one that is trained. There will be less accidents with your children being knocked over than if you get a puppy who needs to be trained. They really don't recommend high energy dogs for home with young children. Hope this helps. BTW husky's are not bad with children if properly socialized and trained. Like any other breed of dog they need to be socialized. You can't just put a dog in your home and not train it around people. That's just irresponsible.

Definantly get a Boxer. They are naturally gentle with small children. That's one of the traits that is bred in them. I had a Boxer for 11 years and she was never raised around chilren and every child that came up to her she was always very calm and gentle.
Siberian Husky's are a very strange breed. They are very aloof and extremely high maintinance. They are very stubborn making them extremely difficult to train.

Both boxers and huskies tend to be very good with children, although you'll definitely want to choose carefully out of the litter, because there are always dogs in any breed that don't like kids. If you're buying from a breeder, they should have performed a personality test and be able to tell you which dogs tested high for child-friendliness.
From my experience with both breeds, boxers tend to be more exuberant and jumpy, and huskies tend to not like being left alone, and as puppies can very destructive. Huskies tend to be easier to train - boxers are usually so happy they have trouble concentrating. Both breeds are very active and playful, which is probably why they tend to do well with children.
If you want more information, you can look at breed profiles on websites like Pet Planet UK and Animal Planet...they have lots of information on shedding, stranger friendliness etc.

Both could make fine pets. Research into what the breeds were originally bred for. Do you want to take care of the massive shedding Siberians have twice a year when they blow their coat? Since Boxers were bred for guard work, they will be protective of your children. But they may have problems with high heat and humidity because of their short noses.
Research into the different breeds, keep in mind that what the dogs were originally bred and used for still has a major influence of their behavior and personality. Every breed has its drawbacks and don't let anyone tell you differently. Both breeds may have problems with hip displaysia and bloat.
Research, research, research, then chose the one that appeals to you. Check out the AKC site. It will have information on both breeds and links to the parent club of each breed.

Best dog around kids: Staffordshire Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier.
I have one of each of the dogs above and kids 5 & 7 years old. They are the best dogs I've ever seen around kids. Infact, the SBT is one of the only breeds that has 'affectionate with kids' in the breed standard ( http://www.akc.org/breeds/staffordshire_bull_terrier/index.cfm ).
Of the choices you want, I would probably say boxer. But whatever breed you choose, remember to be responsible. Dogs are dogs, and no matter how good they are with the kids, you should not leave them unsupervised with your children.

The boxers are too rough and strong, the siberians can turn on children because they tend to be very alpha centric.
I would perfer if you looked at a golder retreiver or a lab instead. They are wonderful with the kids.

NOT a husky... believe me, been there. My aunt had a husky and had to get rid of it because it saw her children as competition and kept nipping them despite obedience training.
Boxers are traditionally good with children, but kids must be taught not to rough-house with them excessively because Boxers sometimes are unaware of their size and power.
Personally I think the BEST dog breed for a household with children or small animals is the golden retriever. I had one as a child and I couldn't imagine a more docile, friendly, and loyal pet.
Good luck!!
