Gift cards to favorite stores

a promise to give him money once he is in college/university. Maybe something tangible too on the actual grad date. A lap top would be an amazing gift but that can be pricey and I don't know what you plan on spending. Just something his parents won't want to and/or can't take from him!
18 Years old...he is probably really into music and certain clothes...maybe a certificate to a store where he can pick out what he wants.
Good luck!

Try a tie clip; he'll be wearing a lot of ties in the future, and they're a snazzy addition to any outfit. Cuff links are good, too, but most people don't wear them anymore.

You might also want to get him something commemorative, like a clock or diploma holder with the year inscribed on it.

Is he going to further his education? If so he may need thing for school. Depending on your budget: Mini fride, microwave or toster oven, gift certificuts for food places(pizza), SAVINGS BONDS(you can never go wrong with those, mom and dad can't touch it and it doubles with time), and some colleges have gift certificuts for the school book store.

Good question! Buy a savings bond (they come in $25, $50) They cannot be cashed in and it takes 10 years to mature.... they cannot get their hands on it!

give money, but conceal it inside of a cd case under the cd. Just use an old cd that you have or just buy one from the dollar bin.

Wow. You know his interests more than we do. Has he talked about anything he'd like to have. A CD, an MP3 player, I don't know how much money you want to spend.

Open a little saving account in the boy's name only.
You'll have to take him with you to do it so he can give the bank his social security #.
