If you meet the requirements at the link below and are fit enough to run with a bunch of 18 year olds go for it. I knew guy's from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, The Soviet Union (he escaped when 12 years old in the 60's), Honolulu (pigeon is tuff to grasp), Guam, Chinese and Filipino. Lot of them were tough to understand, no big deal.

The real problem was guy's from the South. Between their accent and chew it was real tuff.

SSG US Army 73-82

Edit: The guy above me is dead on, but the navy cut off is 34. Did not check the others but I think the army is the only one that uped the age from 34

I respect the Army and Marines, but I was happily underwater never being shot at, eating and sleeping without gas masks, or sneak attacks.
Look into the good ole US Navy...IF your seriously thinking of joining the service.
Also there is the Coast Guard and the Air Force - very interesting careers.

Basically - what training and education do you want to receive during your time.
It's not about being crazy - people thought being in a ship designed to sink was crazy, but actually it's designed to float. It's about what YOU want, not if your crazy.
Ever see a sailor? They are all crazy! Best of the best!
If you can get into an college or university and get a degree - then you can be a officer! - that's crazy time! (Then you can work in the Pentagon - oh no!)

Not every soldier serves in the infantry. Logistics (supply, coordination, etc) needs a large number of good people, to make sure people have the equipment, food, arms, etc. to do the fighting. And some specialized skills, like interpreters, care less about age.

If you feel inclined to join, at least look into it. You can always decide it's not really for you, but you won't know if you don't look.

You can join and the good news is they are aware you are almost 40 so they don't expect you to do the training a 21 year old goes through. The will give you a little more time to run the mile and request you do less push ups each day. It's all up to you.

Go for it!

Few people speak perfect English and the Army recently raised the max age to join to 42.

Crazy? nah. Brave? sure. Willing to risk all for what you believe in? YES.

Thank you for your dedication.

If that is what you want to do, go for it. If you don't, you might regret it later. I'm in the military. It definitely has it's ups and downs but it's worth it.
Good luck
