Okay, well. You would have to take time off work, since a lip piercing needs weeks to heal and you can't change the jewelry during that time. Inserting fishing line into a fresh piercing would not only be painful but would also encourage infection and would make the hole shrink down so that inserting the jewelry would be painful. One option is to find a piercing shop where they will put in a glass retainer. Avoid a place where they would insert an acrylic retainer, since acrylic cannot be sanitized.
Honestly, if you can't take the time to let the piercing heal properly, you shouldn't get it at all. Perhaps consider another piercing, like septum or navel, which is more easily hidden.

Yes, there is clear peircings, but even those are fairly obvious, especially for lip peircing. I assume your work policy is that you can't wear such things, so I would say to either find a different job or don't get one. Perhaps ask your employer if a clear lip peircing would be alright.

Well having a piercing is not usually recommended for the workplace, so at work you can keep a very small piece of fishing line in the hole until you can put the lip ring in again.

Well you have the right idea dont wear it to work. but fine a small piece of fishing line to keep the hole open. As soon as your able to put the earring back in after work do it. After the first 3 weeks you wont need to put the fishing line in and can just take it out.

I can tell you this much........if you came to my office for an interview, just your appearance alone, regardless of your qualification, would put you on the bottom of the list of candidates.
If you want a job beyond operating a cash register or flipping burgers..........you really need to get your priorities straight as you will actually make yourself less employable and taken less serious.
Personally: this is what i see when I see a somewhat attractive girl with a face piercing:
From a distance: wow, not to bad!
getting closer: hmm. scar?
Close: What a beautiful face, but DAMN IT, that thing hangin off of her face is so distracting and otherwise detracting from her appearance that I can't take her seriously without looking at this hoop stuck to her face....she looks like a fishing trip accident!
No offense, this is what goes through my mind!

Do you comprehend that one day you will be old? Some day you will be 70 years old - do you seriously want that hole there? Plus, if you want a "real" job you need to dress the part and realistically that is not a professional image that will be accepted any time soon. Most companies have policies against visible piercing is places other than the ears.

I had my lip pierced once. If you have a job now just know that if you do get it done your lip will be swollen. If your getting it done professinally then you can ask them about clear rings, I'm sure they'd have them, but it really depends on where you work. Talk to your manager or something :)

Yes, most likely you will have to camouflage it for work. I know that Claire's (boutique) makes great clear and flesh-colored studs for piercings. My friend got her lip pierced last year and bought a pack of them for her job. She's very happy with them, but she likes the clear stud versus the flesh-colored stud because the flesh-colored one doesn't match her specific skin tone, which makes it much more obvious. I hope this helps!

Take a couple days off after you do it because of swelling and at least a little bit of healing time. But they do sell retainers. They're clear stud and bar and you can buy them at hot topic, or bodycandy.com. They're not too badly priced either. I just bought some for my nose today actually! haha They didn't even notice. : D
