When I debate the Bible I do use it's literal interpretation to argue my point. Christians in general don't know their bible, nor what it says on many topics. Often I point the inconsistency between what they say they believe and what the bible says on an issue - the typical christian response is either I misinterpreted the passage (it's not meant to be taken literally) or I don't understand it (again, there is another interpretation of it that is not supposed to be literal).

A lot of the things in the bible are meant to teach lessons and are told in stories. I give the lessons a 10+ but the stories a 1.

There are some metaphors and similes in the scriptures presently; but 10 being 100% literal; I am pretty close to 10. I just believe that there are additional meaningful understanding of the scriptures also.

one must always remember that first interpretation should be literral, then symbolic. but mostly it should be plain to be understood.
for example the book of revelation is half literal and another part symbolic.

but when it was written that translators are the worst traitors there is a point to made. Translation and interpretations are not always true or correct.

If 1 is mythical and 10 is literal.. I take it at a 2 (some of the jewish accounts of what is known as the old testament have some accuracy).. other than that, it's not a good source for literal history, definitely not science, and the new testament is completely inaccurate.

I say this respectfully as my own opinion.
