My husband is allergic to codeine, but was prescribed lortab which has hydrocodone. Would this drug be related to codiene or have the same medicine or same affect on him?

Hyrdocodone and lortab contain codeine. Generally speaking, if someone is allergic to codeine, he/she shouldn't take medication that contains it. However, some people misinterpret allergies with uncomfort. A true allergy manifests as hives, trouble breathing, etc. An uncomfortable side effect would be constipation, drowsiness, etc. If your husband has a true allergy, be sure the doctor is informed of it. Maybe he can prescribe something else.

Codine and Hydrocodone are not the same thing.

Codine is usually prescribed with actemaphomen for inflammation and serious cough ( Tylenol)

Hydrocodone with actemaphonmen (Vicodin) is just you for pain and inflammation
they are different drugs which have different mechanisms

no, hydrocodone is not the same thing as codiene, and was probably prescribed because of his allergy.

I would say they aren't the same type of drug, but I'm not a pharmacist or doctor. If you're nervous call a pharmacist or his doctor.

hydrocodone, aka Vicodin contains codeine. also, hydrocodone is a narcotic. when taken with alcohol, it can increase drowsiness. so, no your husband sohuld DEFINETLY NOT TAKE THIS!!!!!!! if he did, but nothing like breaking out or swelling happened, then its ok.
