It is natural because it is happening, humans are natural beings, although we are able to create grand structures and formulate great ideas with our minds, we are still animals, whatever we do is natural.
We won't blissfully return to animalistic perceptions, we'll become more educated and realize that there is nothing after death, or whatever it may be, and just have the Facts, rather than ignore it, we'll learn it. it seems only logical, why would we go backwards? It will be discovered and religion will die. and we'll all be a lot smarter. Most likely.

Actually it's very natural. In past time it meant that the day to day suffering you did to survive might have a long term benefit. In the middle ages this was the prevalent thought amongst religions. In the more modern something good happening can mean a lot of things. Your remains may help feed some plants (cremation) or the fish (burial at sea) or just leave a marker for your descendants (standard burial). It's just a variant of what happens after you die. Since no one has spent much time on the other side of the line and come back we're still waiting for a definitive answer.

It's incredibly unnatural for life forms to think about anything at all. Humans do their best to behave naturally in this regard.
There's certainly no physical proof of an afterlife, though there might actually be one. I suspect you're wrong in believing there will one day be enough knowledge to disprove it.
But humans believe what they choose to believe without regard for proof, once they've decided to believe it. More knowledge won't sway the issue one way or the other.
Consider this:
Everything you believe you know either came from your own experience, what you've actually observed, or what someone told you.
A microscopic piece of the whole is your own experience and observation. Every shred of the rest of what you believe you know came from what someone, usually a stranger told you.
You've spent your entire life unconsciously sorting through incoming data and deciding what to believe, what not to believe. You've made those choices based upon a matrix of preference you've imposed upon yourself just to keep from succumbing from information overload.
But you do have opinions as a result of those choices. Those opinions might be valid, and they mightn't.
I'll predict you've never examined them, consciously asked yourself why you decided to believe this particular set of facts, chosen to believe another.
But the choice was, and is there.
Is that unnatural?

This is the way I believe now. I think more do than will admit due to pressure from various religious groups. The problem is that if one believes in an after life then they suddenly become immortal. Doing away with the most severe fear a person has - death. It is fulfilled wishful thinking and one which no one can ever disprove. That of course leaves a rich ground for various levels of fraud. Mainstream and cult.

I think most people will believe in life after death, or the "immortal soul" for a long time to come. Although we have entered the 21st century, a surprising majority are still quite faithful. I think for most, it's very difficulty to accept that perception ends with death.

It's impossible for us to know if it's unnatural or natural because we have no way of knowing what other life forms or if other life forms think happens after death.

I don't believe it is unnatural at all. I think it is a beautiful thing to know that there is life after death, with God. My opinion differs from yours, I know that we were never animals. Maybe some act like animals, that I would agree with.

I think those who declare there is nothing after this life......are really running away from the "dealing with it". We all die, nothing stops that, therefore I think its good to look at it and study it.....Personally I believe there is life after death......and as a professed Christian, I believe in heaven and hell.

Seems much more natural.
I could think of no sweeter irony than the elimination of relgion through evolution/natural selection. :)
