No bite - available at walgreens in nail polish section, tastes horrible and stops the biting. One or two times in the mouth, it's all over...

Make it a game! Children are more likely to comply in a reward-based system. For example, you could tell her that if she doesn't chew on her fingers or hands a week, you'll give her [insert favorite treat here].

You could also help her relate to a character. For example, if she loves princesses and fairy tales, tell her that princesses don't chew their hands. You can buy her a plastic tiara or make her a wand to make it even better.

I don't know if your daughter will understand (does she speak already?), but good luck!

Good luck with that.

She'll probably stop on her own when she outgrows it. You could discourage it. But before you start with anything that might scar her for life, you might want to check and see if she's getting her second set of molars in. If she is, then she will probably stop in a month or so.

Instead of discouraging finger chewing, you could simply encourage quality hand washing.

I can not believe some person would tell you to put any child's hand in poo... wow! when ever you see her doing it tell to stop, she will. it is just a nervous habit but she is a sponge so just stay on her about not doing it as much as you can, and if you want to put something on her fingers to get her to stop maybe lemon juice, something that she may not like but that will not hurt her.. good luck. the little girl i watch does it too and i always take them out and tell her no no and she is doing it less and less now...

Ive never heard of the NO bite stuff someone mentioned but that sounds like a good answer, or try vinegar or something.

Well, you could dip her hands in vinegar. Or you could spank her every time she does and tell her "icky".
