What kind of sound? grinding? squealing? thunk? The answer will depend on the sound it makes. As far as the pressure needed to stop. Is this because you have more pedal travel with the brake? What tire does it seem to be coming from?

Grinding? could have something embedded in the brake pad if the mech said pad is good.
Squealing? Could be that when the car was given it's last brake job it didn't get the anti-squeal lube applied to the metal part of the pad(back).
Thunk? could be that you have a broken retaining bolt on a caliper and when you apply the brakes, it twists(hence the thunk).
The first two would need more pressure but the third one could.

If there is more pedal travel it is most likely air in the lines they need to be bled or maybe even the master cylinder replaced.
Give more info and maybe I can come up with more...
Good luck

Have you noticed any moisture near the tires on the ground when parked? Could be small leak in brake cylinder. Check brake fluid level.
Could even be bad brake cylinder.
drum brakes on back I assume?

The gas pedal issue is a problem with the burning of the fuel. Sounds like it is getting too much fuel or not enough for the spark to handle. It is either a fuel delivery issue(pump, injectors, filter etc) or a spark issue(out of time, fouled
plug(s), bad coil, wires, rotor, etc.). I would suggest a full tune up and if it is still bogging down on starts then have fuel delivery system checked out.

Rear brake shoes will make a klunk klunk noise that is the shoes moving across the backing plate. Normal for disk front and drum rear brakes. If the car stops good why spend money trying to find a minor brake noise... My 1999 sentra did the same thing. if the friction materal is good use it up and wait until the rear drums are surfaced and new shoes are put on to see that even with new everything the rear drums will rewarp and start making the same noise again.
