I respect many aspects of the Roman Catholic church. Any institution that is nearly 2000 years old will have some patches of time that it it not too proud of. Heck America is only 200 years old and we have made mistakes so it only goes to reason that there are things in the churches past that most Catholics would agree were wrong.
The big item for me that hinders the Catholic church is the idea of Papal infallibility. This is where you have a paradoxical loop. Which Pope is infallible. The current one who says the death penalty is wrong, or the popes who issued death warrants in the inquisition. I know 'rough patch' but that is what I mean about infallibility. We never said that any president or any leader of our country was infallible so when we say we are sorry for past actions we are not taking away from the foundation of our country.
That being said how can you argue with the orphanges, hospitals and many other charitable undertakings of the church.
My 2 cents worth (or should I say 2 points worth)

I'm a Roman Catholic too ... an AMERICAN Roman Catholic. I'm not 'raised Catholic' but I 'converted' as an adult, but I always 'wanted to be a Catholic' because I loved the nuns in their habits who lived 'across the busy street' from us. I still 'love' the religion, and think it's the 'best' ... but I know that what we practice in our corner of the Pacific Northwest is 'different' from what is practiced elsewhere ... but I still try to be 'a good Catholic' and hope you do too ... whether or not you 'practice' your religion any more.

I'm a Roman Catholic...devout.
I think if you are not practicing, then Roman Catholic is really not your religion just your upbringing.

I am also a non-practicing catholic..went to private catholic school and the hole nine. I think the catholic church is very money oriented and I don't appreciate the image that the church has made for itself. If they want me back in church them they are gonna have to straighten up!

I'm sickened by how the Roman Catholic church extracted other Gospels of the bible to make the bible fit their needs. Censorship at it's worst. The current bible we have now has been edited so many times by the Catholic church that it makes it almost impossible to believe half the stuff in there. I also believe praying to saints is a form of Idolatry. The Roman Catholic church isn't all bad though, I respect the fact that they do help the poor and sick. I believe Mother Teresa was the best Roman Catholic ever.

I think there are a lot of good honest Catholics who will be in heaven! I do not agree with the religion for several reasons which I will name but not explain unless you would like to email me.
1. I do not believe Sunday is the right day to worship.
2. I do not believe we should confess our sins to anyone but
God and He is the only one who can forgive.
3. I do not believe that the wafer and wine are the real body
and blood of Christ.
4. I believe we should not worship images.
5. I believe that Mary does not have supernatural powers.
6. I do not believe in purgatory.
7. I believe the dead sleep until Jesus raises them.
8. I do not believe in a forever burning hell.
9. I do not believe you can work your way to forgiveness or
to heaven.
............on the plus side......
1. I think that Catholics in general are very reverent in church.
2. I have some very dear Catholic friends and family.
3. I believe that God judges all people on an individual basis
for what that person has knowledge of and holds him
responsible for what he could know also.

Roman Catholicism ain't too shabby. I'm a confirmed Catholic myself. I'm not really practicing, nor do I agree with much of what the church stands for, but in comparison to many other religions out there, Catholicism is a pretty good deal.

well its a nice choice, i too was raised catholic, enjoyed going to mass when i was younger, lots of theatrics actually, but it doesn't seem to keep your attenion for long, it seems most practicing catholics are young kids and the elderly, not many in the 25-60 year old range, seems after people hit there 60's they seem to want to get back to god.
