Deliciously rich dark chocolate brown. The foam is a light tan but there should be just a skim of foam on a properly poured Guinness. Oh, and don't bother with the bottled - always drink from the tap, warm. It is, sigh, heaven.

The color of Guinness can actually vary.
Alot of people aren't aware that there is actually more than one Guinness.
Theres the regular and the Extra stout.
The color is more of a deep brown to black.
Color SRM (EBC): 40+ (80+ EBC) Approximatley.
SRM and EBC are known in the brewing world as beer color scales.
The SRM and EBC scales read the light through the beer to get the numbers.
I've learnt this through my years of Homebrewing.

The color is a very dark brown and arises from the dark roasting of the malt used in the beer making process. Have fun

Looking at it from the side and not backlit, it looks nearly black or extremely dark brown. If you hold it up and it is backlit, it is a very deep red.
