Cut out most protein. You eat far more protein than actually necessary and as you are not using many calories, cut your intake down to 1500 calories a day. It would be quite possible to avoid all red meat while bedridden.

Do not eat desserts, sweets, sugary breakfast cereals, or drink soda. Those will not be burned off by your body.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. You can eat as many veggies as you want without gaining weight--but avoid eating a lot of bread/pastas.

Also depending on the surgery you have had, you can continue to do some workouts while you are bedridden. Ask your doctor what you can do successfully. You may be able to still do arm workouts, or if nothing else, attempt to keep the muscle active and tense for part of the day. Holding your arms above your head for 2 minutes at a time is a great workout.

There is only one way to avoid gaining weight, no matter how inactive or bedridden you might be. This is to eat the same amount of or fewer calories than your body burns.

When you are in bed and not able to get up and around, your body will not burn as many calories as it would if you engaged in your normal activities. Because of this, if you wish to avoid gaining weight, you must eat less food (fewer calories) than you did when you were active.

In one sense, it does not matter what foods you eat as long as you limit the total number of calories you eat in a day. However, some foods, especially those containing lots of protein, will make most people feel full longer than other foods will, so you won't be as tempted to eat more.

1) Try fish and vegatables and stuff and if your cooking food try not to eat anything with alot of butter, sugar and etc. Eating healthy foods are very good for you but you also have to try to loose some weight by exercising because if you exercise you burn calories and calories are part of the reason for gaining weight and you dont want to gain weight. :D Oh try to exercise every day. Its better you exercise for 1 hour each day than 5 hours per week.

TRUST ME IT TAKES LONG BUT IT REALLY HELPS :D

BORING STUFF BELOW: Just typed it just incase you would like to read it :D

Its like practicing the violin, the more often you practice the better you get. It is also like basketball, if you practice for 3 hours per week you arent gonne get any better Its better if you practice for 10 per day ;D sorry typed too much

I took topamax when I had foot surgery and was on a strict low-fat diet. I took 200mg and had to remind myself to eat. Topamax will also help you with any nerve pain you might have. It's not an easy drug to get used to at first, but the side effects go away the longer you are on it. Ask your doctor and tell him your concerns.

Less of everything, lots more veggies, and no cream or butter based sauces.

You are obviously eating way too much in recuperation. On top of which your body is prone to weight gain.

try goods with high water content, drink lots of water, and try to cut down on refined sugar and saturated fats, those will really make you pack on lots of weight.

also, try to keep snack foods away from the bed, thats probably one of the best things to do
