Are dogs trained to use kill drive? How can you tell Kill drive from Fight drive or Defense drive? Has anyone had a dog try to kill them? If so how?

We are getting some good stuff here.....dogs rarely engage the kill drive...so it is interesting to hear folks discuss it.....For sure it is unknown in many circles as it is not a something needed by many...most interesting is the bite the dogs uses....I will of course fill you guys in on it after more folks get a chance ot comment...stay tuned...

What? In 27 years of training and deploying police and sport dogs I have never heard of kill drive. What the hell is kill drive? Police dogs are not trained to kill anyone and although it is possible that a dog, any dog could kill a person, a police dog's job is to simply find or STOP a person from fleeing or causing further damage to persons or property.
Since I have no idea what kill drive is, I could not tell you teh difference between it and defense and/or fight drive. But, since we are on the subject, and since you are asking, I would love for you to inculcate the rest of us on what kill drive is? I would really love to know.......
ADD: As you can see, several of us are sitting here, waiting for the revelation that is forth coming. Don't keep us waiting any longer, please, do tell us about that "kill drive" that so many of us are uneducated about.

Why are you concerned with "Kill Drive" when your next question says you cant even teach a dog to sit? Perhaps you are young and making up your own drives? I have never heard of such a thing. I have been active with dogs for more than forty years from breeding, training, hunting and just plain old pets. Where do people get this stuff from?

Never heard of kill drive either .. could you be refering to PREY drive - the instinct to chase things?
Same drive (PREY drive) that sends a dog after a frisbee or a ball, that sends a border collie after a sheep, a greyhound after the track lure...
yep it's used every day by people who don't even know what they are using.. Take note: does NOT always end up with the dog making a kill, in fact it usually doesn't.

When I was about 10 yrs old visiting a family friend with my family there was GSD on a chain. He looked ok to me I went over to pet him and was attacked especially in my arm pits and back of the neck. I forget how many stitches I got but it was alot. I was told it was a retired police dog but I find it hard to believe now. This dog was trying to kill me I will never forget his look in the eyes. Prim evil to say the least much like a wolf. I imagine a dog can be trained to viciously kill.

LMAO!!!!!
Yeah,right.....do you actually have a CLUE WTF you're talking about?
You've got FEAR biters....OK, NOT stable enough for ANY protection training.
You've got PREY-DRIVE....so movement will trigger & training a command will aid that.
You've got territorial/pack behavior....unsafe w/out MAJOR training.
Ain't no sucha thang as "KILL DRIVE".
