Assuming the baby and mom are both perfectly healthy. Also, are maternity expenses covered by most insurance companies? Thanks.

My labor and delivery bill was $12,000, but my insurance paid for it all. My friend had a co-pay of $3000.

Most insurances cover the costs. You have to check with your company for the copay if applicable. For my daughter my insurance covered everything. The only thing I had to pay was 10.00 for the initial OB appointment copay, my other visits were considered follow-ups. I also had to pay my 50.00 copay for the ER when I was evaluated and admitted to Labor & Delivery... This time around I am pregnant with twins and on my husbands insurance... So far, I have had to pay 5.50 for a copay and we re not anticipating any other expenses. This time around there is no copay for ER visits or Doctor's visits. Call your insurance company to be sure though.

It depends on what you consider "maternity expenses."

Things like a hospital stay, delivery and all that is usually covered. (Although if you have an ELECTIVE c-section, that will not be covered. Emergency c-sections will.)

Insurance will not cover things like baby clothes, a crib etc, but if you don't have a lot of money you can always get stuff like like second-hand.

Yes, insurance companies cover some-all of the bill- call yours to find out what's covered and what's not, and what you need to do to add the baby onto it.

Most all health insurance cover medical costs(drs.,tests, and hospital stays) for both mom and baby. There might be a co-pay of no more then 1/2 of the amount.
