my dad hates the carnival cruise line. i think hes being a bit of a snob when he says that, but to some extent its true. the carnival cruiseline, when compared to others, is a bit less extravagent and really "crowded." if its your first, i dont think youd notice and i am sure youd have a really wonderful time. ive been on 21 cruises at 15 and only one of them was a carnival (at like age 7) Being so young, i coudnt tell a difference. I had a really good time and i remember their kids program was great.

Some people go on cruises for the places, some go for the actual cruise experience aspect of it so its really up to you!

in my opinion, Royal Caribbean Cruises are "better" than Carnival cruises though, to answer your question

my family especially likes Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, NCL, etc. the Disney cruises were fun for us as little kids too!

i hope your cruise is wonderful. despite what any of us have said here, your vacation has potential to be really really great.

if you end up going with Carnival, you wont need to get a flight home at your first port or anything! most people answering this may be a bit snobby in this area- not to make any character calls. they do meet all your needs and do a good job at trying to give you a really good time!

have fun and God Bless!

Four of the five people ahead of me have said Royal Caribbean is better than Carnival and as a regular RC cruiser I second that with much emphasis. Forget Carnival and go with RC, Princess, Celebrity or NCL. All of these are better. You MAY get a lower price on Carnival but you will get what you pay for and for a few dollars more you can get a better cruise on RC or one of the others.

I always go on Carnival. They offer everything we need, and want, and they are usually at least a hundred dollars less for the same seven day cruise. (We booked a seven day Western Caribbean cruise on Carnival for under $1400 for four people. Royal Caribbean could not even touch that). As far as bottom of the barrel, that is a matter of opinion. Most of the people who say that have never even been on a Carnival cruise.

Carnival is universally considered bottom of the barrel with little improvement in quality over the last few years. Go with Royal Caribbean all the way! I made the mistake of taking my wife on Carnival for our first cruise and now she never wants to go on another one.

Since you are doing a shorter cruise, I would definitely do Carnival as you would get the basic experience, and just enjoy yourself. If you were doing a longer cruise then RCCL would be great, but its a little pricy, and Carnival is very inexpensive. So have fun.
