Its very unwise to place two females together. Either male and female or two males...

It depends on the birds. If you mean the budgie kind of parakeets, female-female is probably the worst combination. In budgies, females have the "Y" chromosome and tend to be more aggressive than males. I've seen a few "queen bees" that are real bullies.

I've had several combinations of male-female that never resulted in babies. Check with your vet about how likely the possibility is of two birds nesting together and what you might do to discourage it. Again, the female is likely to be the dominant member of the pair, so you might have trouble with bullying if they don't take to each other.

Two male birds together usually get along very well. Budgies are social birds, so they kiss and preen and sing to each other regardless of sex. I have two males, and they are very bonded to each other.

If you get them at the same time from the same place so they're used to living with each other it shouldn't be a problem.

If you get them seperately make sure to properly introduce them before putting them in the same cage, but that should be fine too.

if you're a busy person, two females or even two males (as long as they've been together since birth and get along) should do fine, but if u plan on really bonding w/ them, u might only want one bird.

I wouldn't recommend having them in the same cage. It can be harder to keep them tame and if you intend to trick train them at all. Seperate cages would be best.
