I hate buying smokes to find out sometimes they've been sitting on the store shelves for a while. Anyone know how to read and make scents of the code stamped on the bottom of the pack?

[sorry if wrong forum - can't find one on smoking, figured there must be some smokers here.]

Thanks for the PhMor code explaination, makes sense. RJ Reynolds has a different sequence of digits... must be using another system.

I only know phillip morris codes, cause i smoke virginia slims. the pack i have right now has the code c123x70m1. I dont remember what the letters are, i know the have to do with the factory and the shift but the numbers decoded would mean that this pack made 123 days into the year 07. I always check the codes before i buy my cartons, i hate paying out the a** for stale cigs. hope this helps.

I have looked at the bottom on my box of cigarettes and all I have seen is a code of letter and number and a stamp that had Kentucky Tax. In the middle of that stamp it has K08. I am guessing that this is the expiration date.

I was under the impression that they are just numbered so the store can keep track of the pack and the employees don't steal them. Because i thought they frequently had small numbers.
But you have me interested now so im mostly answering so i can keep track of this question.

It should be on the carton. The store I by my ciggaretts from takes them from the catron box. Just ask the clirk. They should be restocking them. You can also ask when they get they're shipment in. So you can get the fresh ones. The freshest ciggs I ever got were from mexico.

I had that happen to me once, the cashier at the time just scoffed at me.
Needless to say I never bought cigarettes there again.
I will star and check back for more answers also.

you should quit smoking, it is destroying your ability to spell, ahem, smell and breath. I would write to philipp morris to find out though, that is an interesting question
