Forget the Atkins diet. I would direct you towards the often-overlooked activity of exercising......If you are serious about losing weight.....and.....keeping it off, then you need to start exercising and plan on exercising regularly for the rest of your life. Add muscle to change your metabolism, don't deprive your body of needed carbohydrates...which fuel your muscles....rather...develop more muscles. Don't look for the easy way out and you'll see much better results long-term.

The diet works...scary enough, it even increases the HDL levels.

It also causes increased levels of keytones in the body, which effect of which over a long period is unknown.

The diet also has an identical drop-out rate as most other diets after a year.

There are also additional considerations, including the fact that the Atkins diet starts-off slower on weight loss.

If you need to loose weight, target about 1 kilogram / 2 pounds a week. If you are not under close medical observation while on a diet, much more than that can cause serious and sometimes permanent damage.

After my second baby, i went on this diet and lost 60 lbs. It was awesome.
I have recently gained 40 pounds from inactivity and over indulging, and am now back on the diet.
I have lost 20 pounds since I started about 1 1/2 months ago. I only have 20 more left.
So, yes, it works and you do need to exercize. If not you will just be loose skin. If you work out and try to tone along with the diet, you will lose the weight and be looking great in no time!!!
If you have anymore questions please ask, i am a seasoned veteran to the Atkins diet!

I wouldn't advise you to follow this kind of diet. Although I don't have any personal experience or know people who have actually tried it, too much of anything isn't good for anyone, especially when that is meat. Try the Mediterranean diet. It's much more healthy and you can easily lose weight if you don't exaggerate on what you eat. Fresh or dried fruits, vegetables, yoghurt, nuts and olive oil are some of the basic foods with olive oil being on the top.

In my opinion, this diet is for very obese people. The first 2 weeks you cut down your carbs to a very low amount. You will lose weight but it is a very strict diet and meat gets old.If you put any sugar in your body the first 2 weeks you will get very sick. Please use some other diet.

I've known people to lose a lot of weight on this diet but it's really difficult to follow. Do you really want to eat that much meat? And you get constipated and your urine begins to smell funny.

Yes. I did. Around 5 pounds (I am not overweight to start with, just want to look trimmer). But than I gain it back when I am eating normal again. I won't stick with it for I love a variety of food.
