you see religious groups bashing each others heads in ! muslims hate christians and even kill each other because of religious believes!
christian sects are head to head in fights among another ! hidus and buddhists do not care for one a nother!

so that would leave us Atheists ! we are the calm and collected ones , the freedom dwellers , peace oriented and charity workers! no preaching , just random acts of kindness!

are we the foundation of sound love , pace and happiness??

I think we are!

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
— Steven Weinberg

Christianity has ever been the enemy of human love.
— Ouida, (1839-1908)

Every religion in the world that has destroyed people is based on love.
— Anton LaVey

The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.
— Joseph Conrad

There's too much tendency to attribute to God the evils that man does of his own free will.
— Agatha Christie

Man's inhumanity to man will continue as long as man loves God more than he loves his fellow man.
— Joseph Lewis, (1889-1968)

An Atheist loves himself and his fellowman instead of a god. An Atheist knows that heaven is something for which we should work now -- here on earth -- for all men together to enjoy.
— Madalyn Murray O'Hair

I am certain and have always stressed that the destination of mankind is to become more and more humane. The ideal of humanity has to be revived.

First of all, I believe a little bit of clarification is in order. By definition, Buddhists ARE atheists. There is no higher power / deity in Buddhism. The Buddhist hell and the origin of Nirvana are largely un-explained. In any case, they were not "created" by a being, divine or otherwise. Perhaps it would help the discussion to specify between people who are religious (including Buddhists) and alreligious (atheists / skeptics).

For myself, I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian home. Went to Sunday School, Youth Group, Church - the whole bit. I majored in philosophy in college and used it as a tool to examine my religion.

The end result was, my religion was jettisoned. I ultimately found the Christian doctrine to be a grandiose form of circular reasoning. I concede I could be wrong (which is a concession that most religious types are unwilling to make).

Furthermore, the more I studied the history of Christianity (whether there is a God or not), the more I disliked it. It is likely the single most violent religion ever - including Islam (although Islam seems to be closing the gap in the last century or so).

These days, I find people such as the late Jerry Falwell to be organized brain-washers. This is something that is very dangerous, and it's one of the biggest components that makes it seem like the world is falling apart (Islam has its own Jerry Falwell types).

Perhaps atheists are right & there is no God. Perhaps they're wrong and there is a God. If I were a betting man, I'd wager on the former. In any case, one would think there would be a lot few suicide bombers if the terrorist didn't expect to land themselves in paradise by blowing themselves up and murdering innocent people. Christianity has for the MOST part overcome its violent past. Islam is still going thru it's turbulent times. Best of all, I think, would it have been for the world to have skipped over the temper tantrums of both religions. Just my opinion.

Hello dear!

Well, what I have been telling East and West, North and South, even in the Centre (Greece), is the following:
All goods are Greek.
There is nothing bad that is Greek.
Many attack me on that, but there don't have any proof!
Now, Greeks were no atheists neither theists the way we understand and define it now!
They defined what is god, you can read Timeo of Plato and hundreds of superb books written by those classical people!
After barbarians entered the knowledge of reading and writing as well as of governing, they changed the definition of god, or rather they misinterpreted and still do and this there is misunderstanding, but this is how they keep people ignorant and miserable!
By the time someone is forced to theism, this person stops thinking, thus gets a subject to the rulers and the rulers never care for Truth, Justice, Philosophy but their rein! Thus, theists are creating stupidity, ignorance, inequalities, injustice!

I would like to think so. However apart from in First World countries (usually Western Europe and anywhere where English is the main language) there are hardly any atheists at all, and religious wars mostly happen in the rest of the world, so your theory may be tied more to economic conditions than theology.

Sorry this is such a boring answer.

I won't go that far because Atheists can have and are a form of abstract religion. I do know that superstitious nonsense could be replaced by more moderate dialog. There are more people seeing the error of religion by taking note of the present difficulties in the middle east. The rapture rights here are shook but the real fanatics are the scary ones who will attempt just as much terrorism as the Muslim extremists

Luckily we have been lucky enough to have people question the universe. Other wise we would not have, computers, television, hospitals, cars, and enough food to name a few. If we just left it up to God we would still live in the dark ages. That's why it's called the dark ages. Progression was stagnant because religious believers thought God would take care of everything with prayer.

Then some people figured out that God was imaginary and live began to move forward again.

After perusing all of the different questions and answers on this sight, can you really make such a bold statment?

Hmmm.... some atheists have hate and internal turmoil as well. Some religious people may have more peace than some atheists.

What approximately those individuals who got here to assist gay marriage AFTER transforming into atheists for what you communicate approximately "healthful" motives? I became an atheist very almost fifteen years in the past, earlier gay marriage replaced right into a significant project in public discourse -- earlier the Lawrence v. Texas determination had even struck down sodomy regulations. gay marriage wasn't even on my radar on the time. i replaced into consistently drawn to historic mythology as a toddler, and at last i found out that those myths weren't only exciting memories; they have been as quickly as area of genuine religions that individuals easily believed in only as essentially as Christians in the present day have faith of their own faith. I requested myself what the adaptation replaced into between the faith i replaced into raised with and those historic mythologies... and found obtainable wasn't any distinction, that the ideals I have been reported with have been only yet another guy-made faith that sought to describe the international and furnish convenience and social administration. There wasn't any actual reason to think the supernatural claims of Christianity have been genuine. it is why i'm an atheist. I wholeheartedly help gay marriage for entirely unrelated motives. My help for LGBT equality has no longer something to do with my atheism, and each little thing to do with compassion and patriotism. Our shape supplies you all its electorate equality under regulation, and that i think in that, so I help marriage equality. What say you to that?

Bravo! Atheists never fly airplanes into buildings. The early religions utilized guilt to convince people that they were bad and that the religion would make them good (of course they weren't really good unless they provided financial support). The day will come when religious people realize that they have been duped while they put money in a basket.

As an atheist I think you're going overboard...lol.

I've known plenty of atheists that were 'holes. Come on now. Sure, the majority of them have been cool, but it's easy to turn any position on anything into an excuse to be a jerk. Most "Christians" I know are cool as well, because they aren't really Christian in practice...lol. Christianity is the default position in our culture, and most people simply accept it as a given without examining it or living it. We hear from the insane religious freaks on here, but they aren't representative of the masses.

People speak of atheism, meanwhile, as if it were the prerogative of a few marginal crackpots; but it's all but universal in practice.
