I just brought home 13 baby quakers from a breeder who fell ill. They all are being handfed by ME.

The owner will want so sell them and I wonder what the market is on tame quakers. The 3 oldest are nearly fledged so may not be as tame as the babies. These came from 3 different nests. Some of the babies are plucked and two have small bites (from parents?) but seem okay.

Any advice would be deeply appreciated..

we have 3 quakers and a conure. I love quakers they are my fave bird species. We live in Maryland, and we paid $150 for our green, and $500 for our blue mutation. This may vary if you live in a state where they are plentiful. I noticed quakers in florida are cheaper. Depends on how many breeders you have in your state selling the same birds I guess.
In my experience with handfeeding babies, I've noticed that siblings will suck off some of the feathers (usually around the face) if any formula is on them, they suck them and in the process take off feathers. I've had parrotlets with bald spots on their heads!! It's okay they'll grow back!! Check out these sites they are my favorites:
www.birdbreeders.com (you can look at prices in your state)
www.babybirds.com (same here!!)

I own a Quaker Parrot, she is 5 yrs old and I bought her in 2002 from Pets Mart in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 6 months old and hand fed when she was purchased. I paid 199.00 for her in 2002. She is a green one. I know that Blues and Yellows go for a higher price at least 200.00 more per bird. These birds make very loving and loyal little pets, though they are very noisy and demand a lot of attention.

Best info on the web for Quakers, and they have forums where you can ask specific questions, too.

Quakers are fairly easy to handfeed but the "quaking" behavior (not how they got their name) might startle you if you're used to other species. It's how they beg for food.

Please wean them to pellets, Quakers are particularly prone to fatty liver disease and obesity on a seed diet.

Good luck!
