If a person is trying to diet but is having extreme food cravings. can the doctor precribe a drug to take away the cravings?

stimulant medications will decrease your cravings for food, but they can also be very dangerous if used improperly or without the close supervision of a doctor.

Unfortunately for diet book authors, the best way to loose weight is simple ... burn more calories than you take in. So eat less, and exercise more. That's it. It's simple.

If there was a "magic pill" for weight loss, the company that sold it would make so much money it would be absurd.

I am not a doctor, but I work in a pharmacy and I know the medications that do this. One is phentermine (goes under the brand name Adipex P). It has a similar chemical formula to Adderall (mixed dextroamphetamine salts) which is also used to reduce cravings.

Adipex P is a good drug becuase it is not as highly controlled as Adderall (which is a schedule II narcotic). Schedule II narcotics are kept in a special cabinet. If we don't have the medication, we cannot order it in a timely manner. Additionally, you cannot get any refills on your prescription (one doctors visit, and one prescription per bottle of medicine). There are no call-ins for Adderal. There are no partial-fills to hold you over.

Ask for Adipex-P.

Why should a doctor give you free medical advice without examining you first. That would be unethical and unsafe.Common sebse says that if there were such a drug, all the diet books would become worthless.

Yes, but he shouldn't. The drugs that do this are amphetamines and amphetamine-like drugs. Just look at your nearest crystal meth junkie and you'll see it isn't worth it. As a matter of fact, it's even illegal in TN.
