I heard Schnauzers were the best choice for the intellectual type. Someone told me these dogs have charactor, wit, personality and they are very smart.

I would have to agree with the asker I have Miniature Schnauzers and they are smart intellegent dogs that don't mind lying about quietly if you are reading or what ever you do. They also like to play when you are ready. Yes 5 stars for the asker of all the dogs I have I say Schnauzer for intellect. GSD for the active outdoor type. Basset Hound for the couch potatoe type. Shih-Tzu for the cuddly type. Yorkshire Terrier for the Snobbish stylish type.

Dont get a full breed at all. Maybe you wont have the luxury of say "my dog is this" but mutts are VERY smart and easy to train. If you insisit on getting a full breed I would say a collie or golden retriever....but Schnauzers are good dogs especially if you want a guard dog look.

My opinion is the Doberman is the most intelligent breed. Some people have done studies but I'm not convinced how accurately it can be measured.

I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and she's extremely smart. But a mutt is a good way to go. You can get the best of two or more smart breeds and it'd also be extremely grateful if it came from the pound.

If you like yippy, whiney and mean dogs sure.
I would go with an Australian Shepherd, they are very smart and stubborn. They are very opinionated!
