Only those who reject the Bible should answer this question. My very NEXT question will be for those who accept the Bible.

I have to say, the REAL objection for me is the moral objection.

Sure, the Bible is demonstrably inaccurate or unreliable as regards history and science. It's a muddle of fact and fiction, and the fictions overwhelm the facts. But it's the theology of vicarious atonement, the idea that I am born wicked with the "sin" of some imaginary ancestor, and that I can only be redeemed by confessing belief in the efficacy of the sacrifice of some idolized 2,000-years-dead prophet to redeem me, that I find the most despicable and unacceptable aspect. I'm neither responsible for my own pitiful position or responsible for getting myself out of it. Christianity is amoral in the strictest sense of the word.

So, many it's hard to pick one.

I guess my best reason is its inconsistencies and duality of scripture. By that, I mean its contradictory method of moral guidelines. For example, where it says to care for a neighbor and turn the other cheek, but it also says an eye for an eye and that an adulterer must be stoned to death. That kind of deity that can't make up its mind is not one that I would want to follow to tell me how to live my life.

If the Bible is the infallible word of YHWH, then it must be either completely accepted or completely rejected; there can be NO middle ground, NO picking and choosing which texts should be ignored and emphasized, and NO internal contradictions. It's either correct and everything it says should be followed without exception, or it's just another book containing ancient stories and parables that can be found countless other times throughout history and literature. Nothing in-between.

The latter makes far more sense to me.

I dont reject the bible, I own one, and my reason for not reading it, is I'm backslid at the presant time of sorts.. See remember the part about when we've become backslid, how satan sends his demons ten-fold or something like that to try to keep us from coming back to the Lord? Well, everytime I'm feeling really close to God again, and trying to repent and do all that He would ask of me, satan comes like a twister and knocks me clean down!! And in really horrific ways..too!!! I still believe, and I always will, until the day I die, I pray too, and with my children every single night, I claim psalm 91 all the time each night we pray together.. But, I got into a bad marriage, that really made me backslide for alot of years, now.. We're devorced now, but I still have a hard time going to church and reading God's word, anymore!! It seems as though everytime I am willing ready and able to go too church something will come up to where I cant!! Is that not the enemy or what?!! So, I sure could use some prayers, cuz I'm trying really hard to get my slate right with the Lord, and I even have some old irresponsible dumb acts I pulled about 5 years ago, in California, that I have to deal with now, or else!! I need God's strength to be with me, during this mess, I got myself into, and for the courage to take care of it... Its been on the back burner for far too long now.. And it must be dealt with now.. That's how much I want to get my heart right with the Lord.. I also know that by my taking care of this problem that my consious will feel so much lighter that I'll be "praising the Lord" all the way home!!! That's another reason I want this behind me!! So, please say a prayer for me, if you will.. My name is Christy.. If you need my name to pray for me.. I would surely be very grateful to you.. I need more than anything for this mess not to be there at all, when I go back, for it to have miraculously have just gone off of the records!! That would be sooo nice, because I only have a limited time in which to do this by: because I take care of my wheelchair bound Mother, and my children will have doctors appointment's and starting school the middle of next month. so, I have to be home by then!! so, I basically need a "Miracle' from God for this to just be wiped clean from the records!!! I surely do thank-You for praying for me, if you do... May God BLess & Keep you & yours, and abundantly bless you for asking such a courageous question!!! Hooray, for YOU!!! SMile!!! The bible is our food, and I need refueled, for sure!! I do have scriptures all over my apartment, however!! That's how much I Love the Lord and always will...

I don't reject the bible, I just don't see it the way an organized religion would. I don't agree with how literally it is taken. I've read most of the bible and I really enjoyed it as a piece of literature, not a guide for my whole life.

Do you mean in part or in whole? Presumably the latter; personally I do think it has some good moral lessons: be a good person, consider how you wish to be treated in your dealings with others, be charitable and forgive others who wrong you.

But the Bible is just filled with so many things that simply beggar belief in the face of claims of a loving god. Sending a flood to kill near all the world for its sins and then later sending his son down to offer forgiveness?
Can you see the disparity in that?

I understand that, if there is a Heaven, there should obviously be a Hell. But the fact that they go around saying "All religion is wrong except us, if you don't believe us, you're going to Hell!" is my reason for rejecting it. I understand being damned to Hell for living a sinful life, but to be damned for not worshiping the "correct" god... Unbelievable! If the bible were true, you wouldn't need to be scared into the religion. I REFUSE to worship out of fear.

I don't reject it.

I view it as an important work of literature.

Its not that great a read but it does have a place in history.
