It will not be an offence to smoke with a child in the car, although common sense dictates that it is unwise. This is just another unfortunate result of the Labour government's dictatorial nannying. Of course people will smoke more at home. According to two reports, one from the Royal College of Surgeons and another independent scientific enquiry, there is no evidence that passive smoking is harmful, despite what the anti-smoking busybodies claim. It is irritating. Therefore it should be a matter for the proprietors of private clubs, pubs etc to decide whether they wish to be smoking or a non smoking establishment.
As I'm sure you know smoking will be allowed to continue at the House of Commons.

There is more danger to the child from the car than there is from cigarette smoke. Why are people endangering the life of their child by putting them in a car? Many children are known to have died in the last year in cars. How many children died from passive smoking?

Sadly it isn't true. They cannot smoke in a company vehicle shared by other employees, even if the other employees are not present at the time.
They can smoke in a private vehicle. And in a private home. Even if there are innocent children around being slowly killed by their habit.
I've said it before here - smoking should be illegal outright.

Thing is there are the minority who, are smokers that when their child developes a respiratory complaint the last thing they will blame is their smoking. Is it their fault or were they just born that way?

It may well become a law, but as with the thousands of other non-enforced laws we have, it won't be enforced. Do you know it is illegal to exit your car, when parked on the street, through the drivers door? Let someone hit your door and you will (know).

It should be, but i haven't heard of such. The parent should have enough respect and concern for the child not to do so since it is much worse for the baby than it is for them.
