Dear I Love God;
Some of the previous answers are wrong or ridiculous and come from those who could not know the "closeness" of God and how very real He is to those who believe and love Him. There are many historical and contemporary Christians who love God and tell of His visitations and also of His seeming disappearance; times in which God "feels" far, far away. Regardless of His apparent appearing or disappearing, the Bible says, "The just shall live by faith" and "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee". If God "feels" close to you now, it doesn't mean He was not close to you before, although you may not have "felt" His closeness. Give yourself wholly and fully to Him to love Him with all your being. Surely, He has blessed you with His presence. "Knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond knowledge, [may] you be filled with the utter fullness of God". (Ephesians 3:19

It is best to talk to someone close to you in your family. You may want to go to your preist and tell him these strange new feelings. Sometimes you might get these feelings after something happened recently. Look over what you did in the last couple days and see if anything odd might of happened that might make you feel closer to god. Besides that you should feel good that you are close to god, and just enjoy this time that you feel protected and happy.

Perhaps this is a time in your life when you are feeling especially ok with yourself, and your spirituality.
However you did make a remark, does this mean he is really really here to stay in my heart....
It has been my experience, that God, regardless of faith or religion or affliliation, does not "leave us".....we turn our back on our higher power and our spiritual faith and beliefs...
I hope you find what it is you are seeking.

I can guarantee you that it is NOT for "no apparent reason". :)
What beautiful graces the Lord is pouring out upon you! He's reminding you that you are His beloved child. I am so happy for you.
Take some time daily to sit quietly and enjoy this closeness, and then listen carefully. He is telling you something. In the silence you will hear it.

Enjoy it!
It's your natural state. The other is not.
We build walls between us and everything else. We build a self-image designed to keep our distance from everything else, especially God.
Be careful, however, as it is very easy to "fall in love" in such a state. Choose carefully who you open up to.
With God you're pretty safe.

Of course it is surreal. God has come to you. Draw closer to him and never let him go.

The mind is a tricky organ. It does a lot of things to preserve itself. Including convincing itself of illogical things. The only thing I can suggest is to question things, and never assume something is true. Get evidence and get proof.
