You know, without conversion, like Caroline Kennedy and Edward Schlossberg. Anyway, what is the actual policy for orthodox Jews?

Orthodox Jews regard non-Jewish women as "unclean". I believe the term for us is "shiksa" which is Hebrew for "dirty animal". I don't expect Schollsberg is Orthodox; more likely Conservative if not Reform. Most Jewish teachings regarding actual rabbinical law are not in the hebrew bible; they are in a compilation of extrapolations called the Talmud. It has many unkind things to say about "gentile" women. This may be one of the reasons why Jewish businessmen tended to be so heavily involved in the white-slave trade throughout history ( not an antisemitic myth, believe me) until recent years (though it's picking up again in Eastern Europe - the market for teenage girls is largely being developed by israelis). In any event, the answer is "no way" if you're talking orthodox. Eleanor Dulles married a Jewish guy and his family disowned him; he committed suicide. Ultra-religious Jews can be very racist.

Very strongly, unless they are secular. They are not really an ethnic group but they would like to become one. I don't know that discouraging marriage with non-Jews is a way to do that, and it does seem racist, especially when you consider that "gentile' means the entire human race, except for Jews. I have never - in my personal life - known it to work out. The mothers-in-law usually go to work on their son or daughter and given enough time they can so persistently find fault that the friction becomes unbearable. I know a Jewish fellow who still deeply loves his ex-wife. He just couldn't take the family pressure.

Basically, they expect Jews to marry Jews. But their usually not that fanatical about a Jewish woman marrying a non-Jewish man, because her children will still be Jews. Jewish identity is passed through the mother, not the father. ("Mama's baby, Daddy's maybe.")

They wouldn't allow it, if they truly are orthodox.
