Please help! I'm a date of a guest to his family member's wedding, here's what I know...it's in the late afternoon/evening, inside, but not at a church and the reception is at an Italian restaurant where the family is going to "drink." Haha, gotta love those plans. My date said, it's not too formal. He's going to wear a light-colored suit. So my options are...
A black chiffon type halter dress that is barely above my knees. It has gray and tan flowers on it and a little beading. I would wear light colored, fun earrings to dress it down a little. Or a cream dress with brown floral print made of kind of a jersey fabric. It looks like a halter from the front, but is a racerback. Hits at my knees.
The first one I guess I'm nervous is slightly formal, but think it would go nicely with a light suit. Also it's about a half size too big. The second is a little more fun, but would it match? Also, I don't have shoes or a purse for that one yet! Any opinions would be great!

Where the one you don't get to wear very often, which I will guess is the dressy one. If a wedding reception isn't the place to wear formal what is. Dress up and feel special.

If you're no longer a bridesmaid or doing whatever targeted for the marriage ceremony then you'll be able to put on anything you favor - and if that's the blue get dressed then opt for it. If you're doing a studying or are facet of the bridal get together then I suppose you have to get the black as asked through the bride. I might in my view be tempted to move with a much less geared up skirt as I consider it's extra flattering to the determine and extra at ease whilst pregnant - however in the event you adore it then it's surely a compatible get dressed for a marriage ceremony and the bride fairly would not have a main issue with it - despite the fact that you received it within the pink!

I think it sounds like you feel more comfortable and complete in the first one, but if you have the time and money to buy the shoes/purse, go with it if you are nervous about being too formal. If it is in the evening, it is usually a little more formal, and if he's wearing a suit, the first one sounds appropriate.

The black one. The event is not "too" formal, but it's still formal. Plus, if this is a wedding reception at a nice Italian restuarant, the black is just formal enough. You can't go wrong with black b/c it's safe.
The cream is a little too close to white (in the neutral white family) Therefore, I would not wear it.

Go with the first one. Even if it's a little too formal, it's always better to be slightly over dressed then undressed at all. The couple isn't going to be offended if your over dressed, if anything they more then likely will just be honored you came. But if you undress, you could hurt some feelings, it could look like you didn't really care enough to dress appropriately.

Wear the chiffon dress. A halter dress that stops above the knees is not formal, so don't worry feeling over dressed.

For evening, I would go for a longer dress, but if you've only got those two options, go with the black dress. It sounds a little more formal, and will go well with whatever he's wearing.
