My fem. Doby puppy(3 mo.old) eats rocks. Her play area outside is a 1/2 acre of 85%rocks 10%grass and 5% dirt. I understand this is a serious problem. She has plenty of toys and chewies and gets lots of one on one time so I don't think that boredom is the issue. We tell her NO when she picks one up and she looks at us and swallows the rock, haha-not haha. We keep her on a leash all the time now but would like to be able to let her loose to run about on her own. Any sugg.'s other than a muzzle, elect. fence and taking out the rocks(not an option) Help!!! Thanks!! Anee thanks you 2, well not really...she loves her rocks.

saw PART of an episode of Cesar Milan with a dog that ate rocks. It was an axiety. obedience training would DEF help, they must know u are the boss, before they'll take your correction. calm & assertive only, never yelling and hitting.

Spray the yard with Tabasco? You could try using a muzzle to train her not to eat the rocks. Let her out and only put the muzzle on right after she picks up the first rock. Make her wear it the rest of the time she's out for that outing, and remove it when she comes in. If she doesn't like the muzzle, she will quickly (a couple days) learn to leave the rocks alone. Make sure you watch her through the window so she doesn't know you can see her, or she'll learn to pick up rocks when no one's looking. Rocks will also dull and break her teeth. If you plant a couple creeping phlox, they will grow to cover the gravel, but that will take a couple years.

Try to use a bitter spray ther sold at your local pet shop. Or try putting a muzzle on her the kind where she can still pant and breath freely but she can eat nor bite anything.Or try to train her when you see she's going to eat a rock tell her with authority "NO PUT IT DOWN" she should get the hint. Or try this when she tries to eat a rock fling her nose dogs and puppies alike don't like it because there noses are sensitive that should get the message across

Really I wouldn't worry too much...I think this is a puppy thing. Maybe because they are loosing their teeth or it feels good on their gums..I promise its not un common...my moms puppy did it, shes okay...my friends puppy did it hes okay....my puppy did it hes okay. Just make sure that you keep an eye on her and make sure she is still a poopin normal. But you would be suprised at what they can pass through. Also you cant watch everything they do...you can try your hardest but they are like children they are always gettin into somethin!!! Good luck.

Smart puppy! She knows how to get your attention. I like the suggestions above about bitter apple or hot sauce, then pretend you don't care when she picks up a rock.

You might consider covering the rocks, only temporarily, in pepper, hot sauce, or some other unpleasant, but edible material. This will teach her to avoid them and you'll be able to just wash of the substance once she gets the hint.

train her to drop things on command just dont start training her using rocks use her favorite toys also train her to come on command
then when she picks up a rock call her and tell her to drop it then tell her to come and when she does make sure she dropped the rock

everytime she trys to pick up a rock give her a physical correction ( asemi gentle smack on thr nose or kick in the ***) if she ignores u and eats the rock give her a little *** beating (i dont care if u think i sound inhumane) everytime she goes to eat a rock let her no who the boss is, she already nos u dont want her to eat rocks she is choosing to ignore u everytime she eats a rock and goes unpunished the harder it will be to get her to stop . . . also u have to catch her in the act u cant punish her 5 minutes later she will just think your crazy and not no y u r punishing her

In a way...it's a puppie thing, and you dont understand :)
All you can do is watching her :)
She will outgrow it :)

and there isn;t much you can do :) Just make sure she eliminates.....well, that she "poops" :) and you will be ok :)
