dont try losing more than 1-2lbs a week because if you lose more its just water weight and muscle which means you are slowing down your metabolism and will gain it all back.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

God some of the answers you have had so far are crap!
I think a good diet and regular exercise really helps. Why dont you write a food diary for one week, and you must write everything down from a bag of crisps to a pint of lager. Then at the end of that week look at what eat & what times you eat (eating after 6pm is bad for dieting), then you will see what you are doing wrong with your diet.
You can then begin to change your diet and life style by monitoring what you eat and how you can adapt & change it for healthier options & times.
Tip: snack be4 bed has to be less than 100cals & 1 hour before you sleep!
You could also do a diary of how much exercise you do, as above do week where you monitor if you walked or used transport, if you did any activity that involved excercising, like gym or aerobics. Then see if you can walk or cyle to where ever you used transport. & increase your exercise by getting a fitness dvd, join a gym/class or run (its free!).
First few pound are easy to get off, it the rest thats hard and you need your body to adapt morefor you 2 loose more pounds.
Hope this helps, good luck x

Hi there , well this is how i did it and it may work for you. Firstly i made a decision that i not only wanted to loose 26kilo,s ..............i had to. So my method was this . Firstly take a hard look at what you eat , write it all down , what you consume on a typical day. Then cancel 90% of all carbohydrates.....increase protien....2 fruits per day. My total calorie intake per 24hours was 1200 calories. No booze , skim milk, and here was the fun part every morning for 1 hour treadmill at 8klm.s per hour at a medium incline, repeat at lunch time repeat in the evening.............and walk the dog 3 times a day. It may sound over the top ,(the dog didnt complain) but look at it this way , no matter what you want in life a price has to be paid .................the price for me to loose 26kilos was diet hard work and not giving up untill i reached my goal.........it took 10 weeks to achieve. As a P.S i am 52years old so if i can do it anyone can. Best of luck

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

That is quite a lot of weight to loose and there is some good evidence that slow steady loss is more likely to be maintained. I would be delighted if a patient lost that sort of amount over 6 months.
2 in 3 dieters eventually end up heavier, This is particularly likely to occur if weight loss is very rapid, or involves fad diets or pills. It appears essential that calorie reduction is always accompanied by regular vigorous exercise. We certainly are what we eat, but we are even more what we don't do!

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

It can be done in two months. It really depends on how determined you are. Along with a healthy diet and exercise this is possible. You need to follow a low fat diet. Plenty of fruit, vegetables, fish, lean meat, wholemeal foods including brown rice, pasta. Along with low fat dairy products, including skimmed milk. Very little alcohol, if possible none at all. With regular exercise i.e running and swimming. But most of all lots of will power and you will be on your way to shifting those unwanted pounds. You will feel so much better. Good luck. I know I've done it.

Take time once a 1 week to plan out and go shopping for meals and snacks so you happen to be prepared whenever hunger strikes.
